530d:? Smaller consumption despite noticeable achievement increase.? The new engine accelerates the 530d sedan in only 6.8 seconds on 100 km/h
The 530xd accelerates in only 6.6 seconds on 100 km/h and reaches a maximum speed of 242 km/h.

I thought the x-drive saps a bit of performance, if only due to the weight? I can't believe the extra traction would compensate??? :'(

Will be interesting to see if the new 540i makes it to NA. I doubt it. But it does leave a huge hp gap between 550 (360hp) and 530 (255 hp). Pricewise, there's very little room to squeeze a 540 in between. In Canada the new prices are 530 $70400 and 550 $78700.

That picture is very misleading if it's meant to be Monaco blue. Monaco has replaced Orient Blue I believe and is a very dark navy blue which might look good in the permanent sunshine of California or Florida etc but looks crappy IMHO in a less fortunate country climate wise such as the UK. It looks like a non metallic navy under anything other than very bright sunshine so don't be mislead by this pic.

why do you say so? There is a big gap between 258bhp and 367bhp, perfect for the ~302bhp of the new 4.0. I think BMW NA HAS to bring the 540i to the US, the new MB E350 has about 300hp, they need to have a 300hp car to compete, the new R6 w/ ~258bhp is ok for the E90, but already its understood that since it doesnt have any more torque than the previous 530, the engine upgrade is minimal in terms of usable power... i think we will see the 540i here in the US, possibly with the drop of the 525i which now makes no sense with its detuned 3.0
the answers have to be out there....anyone have any further info in the US?????

I still don't see it happening because of the pricing problem. The price increase in 530 in Canada has been huge over the past year. It was at $66.5K at start of 05 model year. Then when the new engine came out price jumped to $68.5. Now the official real 06 model has jumped to $70.4K. There's just no room to squeeze a 540 in there. Not unless they jump the price of 550 by a huge amount and I've been lead to believe there is only a $1K increase.
