I ask because I've been considering having the oil and filter changed every 6,000 miles, the trans at 50k, the plugs at 30k, etc. Is this overkill?
Thanks!
Again, this is my first BMW so bare with me...thanks.

I think if you are planning on keeping your e60/purchased, not leased....then do the maintenance a bit sooner than the recc'd bmw schedule...some do it at the 1/2 way points.....just to ensure some longevity...
definitely has been a discussed topic here on the forums tho....

If you follow the scheduled maintenance you will be fine. For piece of mind, if you want to do maintenance more often, there will be no penalty. I basically cut the recommended intervals in half. The car runs smoother on oil with less than 8K mi on it. While the plugs will last 100K, I'm afraid they would be welded in there, so I plan to change at 50K.

I personally go by the CBS on the iDrive. HOWEVER, i do get oil changes done more frequently than BMW recommend.

well i popped my spark plugs out at 56k miles and they looked cooked compared to new ones. So besides oil, plugs, filters the idrive timing is fine for upkeep.

I lease so I just follow the BMW schedule.
But if I owned and intended to keep the car till it was old, I would definitely change the oil more often than the BMW intervals.
