My current lease will expire in a few weeks and will not have a car to drive since the new 530i will not arrive for another 2-3 weeks after that. So I asked my dealer to let me drive one of their loaner cars for the amount of time till my new car arrives. They told me that they could get me an enterprise rental car for $30/day (their rate).

Has anyone here, receive a loaner car till their new car arrived? I thought that they should since I am leasing a $52k car from them. How much would it cost them to loan me a car? They can just make believe my new car is in for service or whatever.

I've never heard of a dealership providing a loaner in that kind of situation (maybe if you and your family had been purchasing cars from the same dealership for the last 50 years). Have you explored the possibility of extending the lease on your current car for anouther month? That I have seen plenty (and it no doubt would be cheaper than the $30/day Enterprise rate).

 

Although your thinking this is an easy fix, it not for the dealer. Most Loaners are property of the service dept., and they need to keep their cars on hand for service customers. Most BMW sales dept. do not keep many loaners on hand. I have had opportunities where I can put a client out in a car for a week or two at most, and that happens when we have executed paperwork on their new car, and it has simply not arrived yet. BMW doesn't even have rates or residuals or pricing on the '06's. The new 530i is at least 2 months out (maybe more on the west coast????). Have you called BMW or whoever your leasing comp. is and asked for a month by month extention. I have had BMW FS step up to the plate if they know someone is waiting for another BMW. They have more options than your dealer.

 

Even if your current lease is not through BMW FS, I imagine just about any leasing company would allow you to extend the lease on a month-to-month basis. They usually just allow you to continue making the same payment as you've been making (which actually increases their profits on the deal, I think) for as many extra months as you like.

BMW FS will always allow this if you have another BMW on order...

 

This is not reasonable, even if you bought many cars from them for 50 years. If you were to rent the car at $30/day, 2 months would cost you about $1800. Even if you extended your lease for 2 months, it would probably be over $1000. Why should the dealer subsidize at least another $1000 of the costs of your new lease?? I'm sure if you walk away from the new lease, they will find someone else to either buy the car or lease it for much less than $1000.

If any dealer were to agree to subsidize a rental or your lease for the extra months, then everyone who wants to buy the car should get a free BMW loaner until the new models arrive -- what sense would that make for the dealer???

 

I am already 3 months extended and the lease company will not extend my lease anymore.

I ordered my 530 in April of 2004, one of the first in Houston. It was finally due for delivery in October of 2004. I tracked it on the web and through the dealer. It went through the factory, on the ship and to South Carolina. Then all went quiet - for two weeks there was no word! Then I was told there was a scratch on the door - but no problem- it would be fixed good as new. Then silence for another week. I was then told that the car was "totalled" and the dealership had ordered me another car, for priority delivery in December. I told them that such was not acceptable. After a bit of negotiations, I was asked to come down to the dealership. Upon arrival I was handed the keys to an X5 and told it was mine until my 530 came in! (Perhaps the fact that I had purchased my M3 earlier in the year from the same dealership had something to do with it . )

 

Leonard, It's to bad you don't live on the East Coast, our cars were done the same day and I'm picking mine up tomorrow. Good luck with the loaner car, let us know what you work out.
