look for overall health and care of the care from the current owner. Did it look like it has been treated well.
No prior damage, check boot, under the spare and front ends for any rework.

The most imporatant is the Kms travelled, the lower kms the better. You keep this the lowest possible the better.
Price is inversely proportional to km travelled. So do a comparison on cars against price and kms travelled.
try and find several cars which are close to the Kms travelled and see how far apart they r priced.

A 2004 car should be be close or under 60000 km, or better. The lower the better, so then you can feel like its travelled well and had good care. Make sure U check the log book/Service history, so take your time when looking.

Dont rush, u are in control and hold the cash, and so U r the power !
Take your time and vist the car seveal times, then be sure its right for U @ the right price, becasue U have done your homework. Seen several cars aleady and know if its inline with best price for Km, and then NEGOTIATE HARD, cause U got the CASH WHICH THEY WANT !.

And it if you think the motor matters, then see if you can use all that power (on any model) and not get pulled over !
