Yes, just tell them you have some problems like the iDrive randomly restarts itself sometimes, its slow sometimes, etc...etc..

I took my car to service dearler today.
ask them to update to the newest cip.
what they told me is every e60 needs different type of software?
and they will upgrade if new v.20 cip only if it is available for my car?
i think this is b/s. What i felt was that they are being stingy about upgrading to new s/w. is upgrading s/w is hard job to do or something?
btw, I got a e90 as a loaner car. car is great. i like the engine start button =p

Thats a lot of crap. It is the same software for all E60's though it may solve different issues for each type of car.

You should have complained of some problems (real or imaginary) with your car like a Xmission slam or Bluetooth malfunction etc. and they would have upgraded it for you.

Your dealer is pretty clueless. Its one and the same set of software for the E60/E61 AND E63/E64. True, there are about 25 individual modules that require programming in the car, but it his carried out by testing via the "Measures Plan" and then only the latest PROGMAN (CIP) should be used to upgrade any modules that are not current. Tell them to read their own Service Bulletins, we do. You do not say where you are. Would help. If in large metropolitan area you could just get another dealer that is more familiar with process. I've even been able to train my small dealer

Yes my experience from the dealer is that the 20 version is not any improvment over the 19.2 it will only be done if there is a problem with the 19.2, but reading here it presents problems of its own the 20 version that is. so if it isn't broke don't fix it
