The 550i is definetly coming this coming this year (sept) but word from my sources is that bmw is undecided on whether to realease the 550xi this year. It will probably make its debut in 2007 imo

I wonder if the 550i is worth an extra 5 months of waiting?? Especially since we would be missing the entire summer...which is important to us snowbirds!! Any thoughts?

My dealer showed me the BMW announcement for the 2006 model year today. The are clearly stating that there are new 6 cylinder engines coming with the 2006 model year for the 525i and 530i. They also talk about all wheel drive.

The V8 will be unchanged until at least the fall of 2005.

They are not officially talking about a 550i for the fall, but the writing is on the wall that there will be something.

Without a doubt it's worth it. But, then again, I don't have to worry about the snow.

I decided to wait for the 550. Traded in a 2000 740il for a double cab Toyota Tacoma to drive for the next nine months. The Tacoma has such a high resale value, the I am better off with it than the depriciation + constant repair bills on the 740. I will never own a car out of warranty again. I would rather be one of the first in town to drive a 550, than be the first to see a 550 while driving a 9 month old 545!

My wife will take the 9 month old 545i and I will order a 550i for January delivery (so I can score another BMWCCA rebate). In the mean time I get to drive the 545i and I didn't even plan it this way, it was her idea. Gotta love her.

However I definitely don't recommend this course of action to others.

550i let's wait and see how reliable the new V8 is!

I'll wait at least until 2009 or 2010 for that!

I think the bugs in the new 4.8 litre engine will be "mostly" resolved before the 550 comes out, since it's coming out first in the new 7 series...which by the way, I think, looks better than the current one - though a bit conservative.

I guess I'm just lucky. I have NOT had any problems from the get-go.

Haha lucky you! You got it simple... no transmission software to control your clutch.
