I hope Rollee is correct that the 550 is destined for the states in the fall....

It would be helpful to know Rollee's sources re: the 550i 2006 rumor. I still have seen no official information or announcements of any 4.8l V8 for the 2006 e60 and it would be very unusual for North America (Canada in particular) to get a new BMW engine for the e60 before the Europe does (and concurrently with the launch of that new engine for the 7 series).

I was at the dealership last night and asked the SA to check on the 550 rumor. He looked up the delivery schedule and confirmed that the '06 550 is set for September 05 build.

I don't understand all this. The earliest I was able to order a 545 with SMG and Hud was March 04 and it was delivered April 1st. That seems like just yesterday.

Now some say that a new engine and 550 badge is already coming in the fall of '05?

BMW is like Apple, they have to hold an element of surprise when they bring in a new product to attack the market.

i have to honour my source for discretion and secrecy, i know the new toy is round the corner.
it will be of 2 batches, the first to arrive is the '5' xi follow by its souped up cousin a few months later. this year bmw has plans for every one of its competition and will kick one after the next.
i understand the urge for confirmation but please understand my position, that is why we have internet forums in the first place.

i think the 545 is a fabulous automobile, if you are ready go for it. need not wait.
on the other hand if your plans can delay a few months , you will be rewarded for your patience.

550i is coming. I know as well. Forget about us disclosing sources, etc. Just keep it in the back of your head if getting a new 545i. I'm not saying NOT to get a 545i at all. I got my 530 knowing a new 530 would come out. But for those who want more power and other things, the 550 is coming 9/05. And this is how it is. Dealers don't know all the time. Be prepared for 9/05...

I just ordered one for April ED, and I don't think I would postpone even if this is correct; but it is tempting to wait.

There will always be something better, faster (and more expensive!) down the line. I didn't want to wait--picked up my '05 545i last week and love it.
