In the forum "545 vs M3 Convertable performance???" someone ("ninthswat") stated that the 545 will be replaced by 550 in the fall. Has anyone else heard this?
I will be ordering my car in about 6 months (waiting to hit about 80,000 miles before I sell). I find it hard to believe that they would dump the 545 so soon. Maybe the 550 will just be an option, probalby an expensive one too. Obviously I want the 550 if there is to be one, but getting information on upcoming changes apparently requires connections with the CIA.

The 7 Series facelift in March brings the new 750i with 4.8L engine

It usually takes at least 6 months for a new engine to filter into the other models ( like the new 3.0 that has been in the 630i for a while and only in the 530i in March )

the 4.4l of the 545i has been around for a while

550 is confirmed to be here in canada this year. with the mighty new v8 powerplant 10-12% increase in output thus reduction in emissions.
they will also have the xi 4 wheel drive e60 550, rumored to be the world's fastest 4 wheel drive.
people start your engines.

The E60 will have been in production for 2 years by the time the 550 is launched in the autumn. It's not unusual for BMW to upgrade engines that soon in the model cycle. The E46 coupe is a good example. Launched as the 323Ci and 328 Ci, these models were replaced in a little over a year from memory by the 325Ci and 330Ci.

The 6 cylinder cars are all uprgraded in March with the new R6 engine so they have been superceded even quicker than the 545i.

I guess there will not be much different between 545i and new 550i. Maybe about 30hp and slightly bigger torque. On the whole, maybe faster by 0.2 seconds in 0-60

If my memory is correct, in the US the 323 & 325 had the same 6, the 323 was the E46 and was launched that way as the E36 was a 325i. After a couple of years they changed back to the 325 moniker

Please advise on the source for your "confirmation." There does not appear to be any announcement in Europe on a 550i e60 and it would be very unusual for anywhere in North America (Canada included) to get a new model e60 before Europe does.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have found a few unconfirmed reports of a 550 in the future, but nothing solid, mainly speculation in other forums that pointed more to a European model that hopefully will be available in the US for '06. Reports of 367 hp gives me goose bumps just thinking about it with 19" wheels. I guess I'll have to change my screen name to markt550i.
