If you don't order a new car, what would be your other option, pick one from the dealer's inventory? I guess it depends on if you have another set of wheels to drive in the meantime. I'd probably order a new one. I found waiting for my BMW to be built and tracking it on the boat to be an interesting hobby. Besides, you get exactly what you want.

My 545i was a 3rd car in a 2 driver family. My wife drives a Suburban, and I have a company truck. The 545 was a weekend and fun car.

I do agree with you regarding ordering the car and enjoying the production process. I am aprehensive taking a vehicle off inventory rather than ordering it. I was very paticular with my car when I ordered it and was not willing to pay for options I didn't want and I don't want to pay for options I don't want now. I also don't want a car from inventory with test drive miles on it.

i have the confidential US dealers preliminary ordering guide to the new E90 3 series. Its DOES include SMG, and notes it starts production in September. Active steering is a stand alone option on all cars, i dont care what that story says, BMW is not stopping SMG production.

Good info thanks. I called another BMW dealer locally, and had them look for my car, and their isn't a 545i with the same specs in the USA. If I want the same thing I am going to have to order the car, and I was told it would be a 2006 with a production start some time in March.

I wonder what BMW is going to offer me. Will they find a car similar to mine and say take this, or let me order it. If I order the car, I will be out a car until June. What happens from now tilll June?

If you were to order a new car, would you change any of your options?

I think the salesman I asked was incorrect regarding the 2005 545i. I think the 2005 545i's are still in production.

Regarding the car I would order, I don't think I would change anything. Maybe add the sun shades. My kids would like that. I have a 2 year old who hates the sun in his eyes.

As for HUD, I think I will pass again. I thought the HUD showed the gear I am in and I confirmed with beewang it doesn't.

I hope you're right.
I haven't heard that rumour before, but what is confusing is, that the guy who was quoted in the article is a BMW rep.
Anyways, hope you're right...

It's well worth the money!!!

And who knows... Maybe one day there will be a software update that allows the displaying of the gears...
