It does cost more, but I think its a better value for several reasons. If you are leasing, you will find that the lease rates on the 545i are much better than the 530i. The 545i is also better value (whether you lease or buy) because the dealers are willing to work on price with the 550i starting to ship. Lastly, its a no-compromise sport sedan-- with the 530, you may feel like you compromised relative to competiting sport sedans, most of which come with more powerful engines than the 530i.

You will see a lot of people telling you to get the 545/550 (including me). It's by far, an enjoyable car to drive.?
You should test drive both cars and then decide if you can afford the extra $10,000 (and added gas and long term maintenance costs) for a permanent grin!!

I'm a thrifty guy; honestly, you won't need that 550i power on any public road. The 530i is well sufficient.
Get your foot to talk to your head and evaluate your pocket. My foot said it's happy with more power (and other standard features too), the pocket provided, so the brain said, "Get the 545i." So I got it and have been very happy so far (over a 1 month).

YOu will be perfectly happy with the 530 as long as you don't drive the 545.
Repeat-- don't drive the 545i unless you are prepared to be unhappy with the 530 afterwards.

The options and std features you have in both cars are very similar. What you don't have in the 530 can be ordered or retrofitted.
I have a friend who drives the 520 because he thinks thats all he can afford. Guess what? He fitted the M5 rims (std width) and lowered his suspension and the car looks and drives great. Nobody's gonna say he's an M5 wanabe.

Oubviously all 545 owners are bias...530 a t 6.7 have more than enough power for everyday driving ...if you really want a big c...get a M5..why settle for middle of the road???
Regarding value the 530 is a no brainer ..with the 545 you have to spend more on price( 10k ) , on gas, taxes, tires, insurance, and RESIDUAL VALUE WILL DROP WITH TIME BECAUSE ON GAS PRICES...I understand that if you buy a brand new BMW you should not have to care about gas prices but 2nd hand buyers are a different breed ...they care big time
PS: Im bias to a 530 that s what I own..really comes down to how much you want to spend..it s about the law of diminishing return like everything else...but to pay more for 1s less 0-60..??? Personnaly , I have better things to do with my money..
