haha finally... I was waiting for a topic like this for a while Diesel for the win!

Why drive a car that is uneconomical and needs at least 5000 rpms to move while you can get more torque that already starts at 1600 rpms

Ballistic: I love the torque, but the engine is noisy when idling, 400 lbs heavier and takes 15-20 minutes to reach the optimal temperature during winter.

I received a 2011 335d two days ago as my loaner car and am gonna have it for the next 10-12 days according to my SA. My first impressions when comparing it to my 535i, holy shit is it fast. It makes my 535i feel like a turtle, the pick up and response when I hit the gas compared to my 535i is like night and day. My sister drives a 7 series and I was over at their house yesterday, I let her drive it to the store to pick up some smokes and she even commented on how much faster it is than her car. My only complaint is that I'm 6'4 and it feels like I'm sitting in a civic, curse these long legs!

LOL @ this post

I had the same experience the first time I got a 335d as a loaner. The car is simply amazing and it
is the #1 reason my wife now wants 3-series. I had my loaner for a week and I drove the $h!t out of
that car!! I love my 545i and I would never replace it for a 3 series unless it was an M3. However,
the 335 has definitely helped raise the 3-series stock value.

First impression - it felt much cheaper than my car, looked really plain inside . I love the exterior, however, interior...was not even close to my 535i. I thought "I want my car back right now!"

Now to the good part - the diesel engine . Well, the torque is crazy .... it has so much of it, I could not stop WOT it every time I drove it. It is just too addictive. It sounds and feels like V8... I thought my n54 was amazing engine, but this diesel.... if there would be e60 535d I would seriously consider it. Driving it on the highway at ~60mph I was averaging 45mpg, overall had 28mpg (300 miles). And I was "really enjoying" the car... I do not push 535i and barely average 21mpg. So when SA called today and said that my car is ready, I waited till before they close before I returned the car. Now my car feels "slow"..... I will miss that raw punch ... I am in with diesel

I can't believe I took the time to write this but I had to share. If your dealer has 335d as a loaner, I would recommend it... Just for fun
Your experience is no surprise. The 335d is damn fast at speeds that you can actually drive in the US. The magic of a tractorful of low end torque. That advantage disappears at high speeds but how much can you drive at super speeds in the US without getting ticketed?

diesel engine's a tad more tricky...don't think the tmap n54 engine piggyback's are compatible with x35D models..

I do know bms has a diesel engine specific piggyback tho...

"Gain up to 60+ horsepower and up to 100+ torque to the wheels by simply adding the JB Diesel (JBD) with no other modifications."

When I got my 535i back, I thought "WTF did they do to my car?" It was not so "slow" before.... It took me a week to get used to it....
