I was in a similar situation. I have an 06 (with a years warranty) and wanted the ipod connection without worrying about warranty etc. My local dealer started at ?490, after further discussion we arrived at ?420. The part is only ?195 the rest is on labour for the coding. He would not move any further than that, so ?800 is a bit steep!!!!!
I am going to phone round a few dealers and compare prices. Still a bit expensive though...

It's painful getting the IPOD interface from where I live. There is only 1 dealer in the province and they bend you over and dont even lube you up first! I was qouted over a grand for the IPOD interface and almost $800 for the aux input (parts included).
That is just way too rich for my blood to listen to music. I think I will have to go the crappy RF modulator route or drive around with my SkullCandy headphones in lol

Yes the easy way out that would be the best way especially if you don't need USB port (OEM BMW is iPod interface only) and don't really care 'bout its limitation.

Next week I am going to borrow a mates FM modulator to see how well it works in the BMW. The FM bandwidth is so congested where I live, not sure it is going to be any good

WOW!!!
I called around before I bought my car. The local dealer only wanted $190 US to do the aux input (parts and labor).

I have 3G service with my Iphone and find that I listen to Internet Radio through Flycast far more often then the IPOD itself. Unfortunatly Flycast will only output through the headphone jack so I have to get the Aux input instead.

If your car has a CD changer and you can play MP3's in the single slot CD player, there is a good chance that the ipod interface will be "plug and play", with no programming required. Since you already have a changer, the physical installation is also very easy. Just remove the changer, disconnect the cable, and plug it into the ipod interface.
Here is some information about what I did (I didn't have a changer, but I had CDC prep.)

The only situation that could require several hours of programming is if your car needs a software upgrade. I?m not sure how things work in the UK, but In the US you can usually get the dealer to do it under warranty. Nevertheless, if you can play MP3 CDs in your single slot player, you should have an adequate software level already.
