would a independent bmw dealer be better to get this installed


i really want ipod/usb but does it really cost ?800 to get done

 

save your money! Do it your self or sumthing. What dearer was it? Different dears in the UK charge different labour rates

 

to integrate it properly with the idrive i think the dealer needs to reprogram it / using special tools so i dont think its a job i can do my self

 

It your car is 06 or later, you need to get it programmed. They 1st need to program the car, then you remove your CDC and install the ipod kit.

its 55reg think 05 sept was first registered got the old normal metal key / no start button


did a bit of research on here and it looks like the Dension Gateway 500 seams to be the daddy

how do i no if my car has all the right features for it though? and will bmw install this for me or will they only install there own device?

Local dealers here was 3 hours labor for the programming. The part can be had for $270 US at any dealership parts counter. It's like a 15-minute install, there's several threads about it on here.

Also- if you can play MP3 CD's in the in-dash CD-player, then you may not need to have your car programmed.....

This also assumes you already have a CDC..

 

?300-?400 price for ipod/usb install, ?800 - is a big big rip-off. Find another dealer !

 

?800 includes the ipod/usb part as well still think its a bit steep


as for the Dension Gateway 500
i have a CDC, plus normal cd + dvd
dont no about mp3 iv tried to make a few mp3s but they dint work, but this may be down to me not burning them right

would a dealer install the Dension Gateway 500?

 

i dont know how accurate my calculator is, but says ?800 is $1123. WOW. that is a lot of money!

 

That's Dubai BMW dealer prices!!

Install yourself, find an independent BMW mechanic with Autologic or GT+1, have them do the retrofit encoding for you (if it's needed). Save yourself a truck load of money.
