The car is still under the original warranty. If Bob is the original / first owner, he can purchased a BMW extended warranty. The extended warranty will remain with the vehicle and covers future owners.

IIRC, you no longer need to be the first/original owner in order to purchase an extended warranty from BMW. Any owner can purchase an extended warranty until 5k/3months before the new car warranty's expiry date (45k miles or 45 months from in-service date)

An '08 550i, no nav(!), 25K mi., just sold on ebay for 43,000+! Hang in there. I guess people are finally seeing what a bargain these babies are, especially in light of the new F10 550i price structure.
