El Immigrante I have referenced the below website that has the tint laws for each state, take a look.

It looks like in California that the front windows have to be 70%, and the rear/back windows can be any level of darkness. My car has 50% tint on the front windows so it's going to be one shade darker than is acceptable, hope this isn't a deal breaker for you.
