Common problem with a low end manufacturer selling a higher price product. They dont know how to sell it. They're not used to that caliber of a client.
+1. That was one of the problems with the VW Phaeton, which was actually a fantastic car.

I don't know, it looks like an A8 on some downers to me... but the new one is supposedly coming back, so we'll see. BTW VW dealers are in my experience quite close to Nissan dealers in the sleaziness dept. Too bad - they've got a couple of things I'd look at... like the CC or the new Golf. And of course, shame on VW NA for not offering Scirrocco in the States!

A while back I wanted to compare the 300ZX, Supra, and 3000GT. The Nissan dealer was OK and I got a test drive in the base model but not the Turbo, not without a down payment. No Mitsu dealer would allow a test drive in a 3000GT VR-4 either, most didn't even have one on the lot. Same for a Dodge Stealth. Most times I was in a suit from work too. One Saturday in jeans and tee shirt, a Dodge dealer didn't give me the time of day. My father who had bought 2 Dodges from them was just about to go ballistic that I couldn't get a test drive without a $5k down payment. Then at a Supra dealer, same thing. They had a demo on the lot, 5k miles, busted radio knobs, dirty golf shoes in the back, and the salesman "had to check with the manager". After waiting 15 minutes, I left. I then found a Mitsu dealer who let me test drive a VR-4. They got the sale the next day.

Had exactly the same thing happen to me when I wanted to test drive 350Z few years ago.

That's too bad - you should've gotten the Supra!

Seriously speaking, your story reminded me of that whole song and dance when all of the above models you talk about got pulled of the market "due to poor sales" - maybe they should've looked at it more realistically, then they would've realized it was due to poor salesmanships of the respective dealers.

I'm going to try that this weekend at my local Nissan dealership. I'll then point to my M5 outside and tell them I'm serious. If they still say no, I'll laugh and walk out.

I went to a nissan dealer a couple of weeks ago to look at a GTR. I drove up in my 09 Corvette Z06. The GTR was in the show room roped off so I couldnt even touch the car from behind the ropes. There was 1 sales guy who was on the phone and a receptionist, both sitting bout 10ft from the GTR. I stood there looking at the car for about 15mins and nobody even said a word to me even the receptionist. So I left the show room and got into my car, as soon as I did I saw about 10 sales guys suddenly come out of the building. A few saw me in my car and I heard a couple of them say "Man thats a sweet car".
