After much thought and frusration, i've finally given up on BMW. I've driven a BMW since 1983, but I can't stand their new cars. Styling, reliability, and idrive is too much for me. I wish you all well, I'm moving on to Porsche. After the first test drive of a 911, I realize that BMW is not the "Ultimate Driving Machine". See ya.

good luck ... nice cars. bit plastic inside however.
in UK, recent TopGear magazine reviews 997 C2S vs M6. Close match; M6 clearly quicker; M6 20k (?) more expensive though; M6 more luxurious; 997 only able to keep up through corners.
My mate had a 996 C4 cab. I personally didn't like it at all. Bad quality feel to it.

I would not compare incomparable. Besides anything else 2passenger vs. 5passenger car? But I guess if you drive alone all the time Porsche is ok.
Having BMW is a reason when someone needs to have a fast but decent car, fit some family in, drive to work every day, etc....
Also it is not that much "stick in the eye" driving BMW as opposed to driving Porsche.
Porsche a great choice for 2nd car..... nice for the weekend and summer time. But really having Porsche as just one car??
And one problem I have myself, I'm too tall for the damn porsche, it is just so small inside.

Porsche is a sports car. The 545i is a luxury sports sedan. Totally different cars.
I test drove a 997 S a few weeks ago with sports suspension and sport shifter. Incredible car - laser steering, awesome engine, race-car suspension, shift throws were maybe an inch or two. Definitely the most fun-to-drive car I've driven in some time.
However, no way would I drive someone else in this car, especially my wife. At slow speeds, on bumpy roads it feels like a truck. On the highway at cruising speeds it is noisy and rough. And, forget about driving the Porsche in snow, just don't even think about it. For everything but me driving alone on twisty smooth roads, I'll take my 545.
If you want the best luxury sports sedan in the world, it's still a BMW. If you want the best sports car in the world, it's a Porsche, but you better have a second car.
