My Ride: 2005 545i with everything
If I lived in a snowy climate like Ontario I wouldn't buy a rear wheel drive car, nor would I buy an E60 if I was going to be driving kids around a lot. Period. Get an x E60, or stick with SUVs.

The V8 is appealing but fuel economy kind of turned me off.

I had a new 325i loaner the other day, and I can tell you that it's slooooow. It does not have torque response like my 530i although it's heavier 325i. That's only myself in the car. If + wife + 2 kids, it'll you nowhere.

If you have snow for 6 months of the year and you want to transport precious cargo (2 kids) I would only consider 4 wheel drive. BMW don't offer 4x4 in Europe so they'd never get on my short list!
Sorry.

There are snowier places in the world than Toronto. Snowy for 6 months? 2 out of every 3 times I go there it is hotter than ladies night at The Brass Rail (you know where that is right?).

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum and I am a newbie to BMW so please bear with me.
I live in Toronto, which means driving in snow for 6 months a year.?
HAHA....you must have come between May and November...Brass Rail, isn't it ladies night all the time on the first floor?
Thanks for all the feedbacks. I am truly leaning towards a 530i since I don't see much difference between the XI and the I if I have good snow tires. Besides, during really harsh days I have my suv as back up. However, I just don't feel comfy about the price of the 530 Vs 525 as it doesn't justify the price diffference.
Going to the 545 is just a bit overboard. Yes, I have 2 babies and I am in my thirties...but I still want to be a cool dad and drive a nice car with agility. All the cars I mentioned before have good safety features. Nevertheless, BMW is still my top choice.
BTW, I went to the dealer at Kennedy and hwy 7....

RW535d - x530d just announced by BMW for the UK - but I'm in a similar position to Arthurk (but without the snow in London) - I considered a Range Rover Sport, but again, fuel eceonomy was just plain wrong (petrol is now at around 92p per litre here right now), so am going for the 535d - with perhaps a little chipping by DMS...
"...Don't see much difference..." there is magic word "see"! You will feel it ot slippery surface. It so stunning difference in acceleration, but of course, stopping power is same.
