i had an 05 e55 and before that an c55 (now i have a 545i)

straight line performance, e55 is tops. no doubt, its like your about to take off. i took it to 140+mph, rock solid. torque like no other. very luxurious. very few cars combine top notch power/speed and 4doors. never had any problems, and i abused that car pretty good (burnouts, took it to the track for quarter runs, raced cobras/friends ferrari/trans ams, etc etc)

compared to the 545i? it depends. the e55 suspension is a little softer and does not ride on rails like a bmw does. but really, who goes out and carves up mountain trails/hwys? you dont go and race people through the twisties, but most people like to eat up little kids in their imports and muscle cars at stoplights (at least i did). to me, e55 is more eye-catching and more of a status thing. both can carry passengers very comfortably, but i think the e55 is a little better/bigger.

honestly, you cant really compare AMG to a non-M bmw. comparing AMG to M car is fair, but AMG e55 to a normal 545i is easy answer==> e55. i love my 545i too, but its not the same as to when i had my e55....

probably only thing bad with the e55, is that most likely youll get speeding tickets left and right bc its easy to go fast in that thing. only reason why i got rid of it was bc i got 3 tickets in the 2 years i had that thing and my insurance went through the roof. it didnt make sense, financially, to keep that car...

I cant find any M5's for $30,000-$35,000
Lots of CLK 55 and E 55 in that price range with low miles.

That just proves it used mercs are cheap which leads to only one logical answer...the owners want to get rid of the cars and fast!!!
no one'll be willing to part with an m5 at that price hehe

Mercedes Repairs are not THAT expensive, if youre getting a CLK/E/55, a majority of replacement parts are surprisngly cheap, since MB uses similar/same parts for most of their cars.

Im a big AMG fan.

The way I see it is simple.

If I have the choice to buy a BMW vs. MB, I pick the BMW hands down. Clearly why I have a BMW 545i and not an MB E500.

If I have the choice to buy a M BMW vs. MB AMG, I pick MB AMG hands down.

I have driven an S55 AMG and SL55 AMG. AMG's are freaking monsters!

Once I get around the age of 28-30 Im going to spring for an AMG not sure which one though.
Have to wait for insurance to go down alittle more. I think Im paying almost 4 grand a year for my BMW.
AMG right now would kill my wallet, they probably wouldnt even insure me.

it really comes down....

I'd purchase a M3-coupe over a C-Class AMG, but I did pick my C55 over a e46 M3 (but e46 m3 over c32 amg!!!).

but once it gets to a larger car, BMW doesnt offer an "M" such as a large roadster (SL) theres no "M" version of it, and S63 thres no "7 series" version of it, except a overpriced Alpina B7 (which is not the "M").

BUT, when it comes to a full size sedan, such as an M5 or E55/63 amg, I'd personally pick a M5 over the E-AMG, simply because the E class body always looks so...OLD. (maybe b/c im still young).

When I drive my dad's E class out, I feel like I'm an old age driver. haha thats just me.

Dont do it!!!! I went from a CLK55 AMG. resale values on cars now suck. Seems like price drops $1000 a month
