I cheated on my E60 today and tested the Lexus LS460. It is a huge step up on material and design compare to LS430 but the 8 speeds is really stupid isn't it? Why would anyone need 8 speeds? Other then that, LS doesn't have manual gearbox... I still dig E60's because it's sporty + comfort + somewhat luxury. My verdict is that the LS is the closest competitor to E60 in the same class. What are your thoughts? What would you like your E60 to have which it doesn't?

I have taken a new LS 460 for a spin too. Its a really marvelous car, but a very different animal than any of the BMW cars. Trying to compare it to the E60 is like comparing apples to oranges. Two different cars, different theories, different target drivers. Both marvelous and spectacular in their own way.

The E60 and LS460 same class? I don't think so.

I do think is a very comfy car and that car is a direct competitor of the 7 series or the S-class instead of the 5 series. In that class I don't think people would want it in a manual, but the 8 speed gear box hmm.... for a truck maybe but as long as I don't have to shift I don't really care how many gear it has as long as is more then 4.

It is categorized as mid-size car in US, so as the e60.

Well, judging by your logic where does it put the GS350/430? I had thought that Lexus positioned the GS against the e60 and E-class.

You realize that the "mid-size" category includes probably about 100 different models, including Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, etc., right?

I think what others are saying is that the E60 is better defined as a sport-luxury automobile, and the LS is better defined as a luxury auto.

The LS is full sized. The GS is mid sized.

Since you asked what is wrong... You did compare the e60 against the LS.

I don't know, but that there is a comparison.

I wasnt trying to be a butt head. I just thought a comparison to the E65 would be apples vs. apples.

But, in comparing the two, I think the E60 kicks ass in every performance related issue, while interior ergonomics and luxury ride go to the LS460.

Just my thoughts.
