I don't understand why has the center console be cluttered with phone buttons - do you really need them that often they have to be there?

The general shape looks disturbingly close to the Pontiac Aztek - the ugliest vehicle ever made. The console is way too cluttered, if you are going to have a phone touch pad in the dash I would think it would be much more elegant to have it like the current 7 series, a hideaway full pad.
