I am not a big fan of Audi due to their quality. Not to mention their service is worse.
I will pick BMW over Audi.
You have got to be joking. The most dissapointing thing about my BMW is that the build quality and materials are inferior to my old Audi Allroad. On pure build quality Audi is superb.

IMHO the Q7 is one of the world's ugliest cars / suvs, whatevers.
Technically it may be great but it's just so ugly it's embarrasing.
Nothing against the fairer sex but the the majority of Q7's seem to be driven by women. Why is that ?
Not enough Q7's on the road here yet to tell but around these parts X5's are almost ONLY driven by women. Seriously popular car and I almost never see men driving them, except on weekends. Incredibly the same is true of Land Rovers, I mean the Disco 3 is a seriously stonking car for offroad adventures but for dropping the kids at school and doing the shopping, same is true of the Lexus LX470, ridiculous

I just sold my E60 and bought Q7 over the X5. I test drove both Q7 4.2 and X5 4.8i.. both are really nice cars and handle great.

In my opinion, here are the differences:

1) X5 is faster and handles better. Gas mileage is similar for both cars. I'm averaging about 11mpg with city/highway driving for the Q7.
2) Q7's interior built is much better compared to the X5. And i actually prefer the MMI (Audi's I-DRIVE) to BMWs.
3) Both are big SUVs, but Q7 is slightly longer (about 9 inches longer).
4) I feel Q7's ride is quieter and smoother compared to the x5. I test drove both cars with adaptive air suspension for Q7 and sport package for x5.
5) In terms of looks, i think Q7 is a better looking car.
6) Both cars are really comfortable, well it's an SUV after all!

After putting 1500 miles on the Q7, i'm unsure if i made the right purchase. Probably i will wait and trade my Q7 for the new M3 sedan.

I will post some pictures up of my Q7 soon. It has 21" RS4 wheels!

Great feedback.
Keep us posted. I too may be in the market for a second vehicle, an SUV, sometime at the end of the year.

My wife purchased the Q7 in January of this year. We decided on that over the X5 as well. Both vehicles drive great - smooth and powerful. The Audi interior was far better and more refined. Fit and finish is excellent. But the actually selling point for us was the 3rd row. On the Q7 it is actually useable. Not big, but useable. We have had kids, teenagers, and grandparents back there with no problems. The X5 third row is useless. Those seats are so small jammed between the rear wheel wells. My 8 yr old son was "squished" when he was back there for the test drive.

I am a die-hard BMW fan, and would have bought the X5 over the Q7 if it wasn't for the 3rd row. But the whole reason to have the SUV for us was the ability to do 7 people. IMHO you can't do that with the X5

Erm, has anybody noticed the interiour of the X5? It looks and feels like a Skoda..
That, and the fact that you can hardly tell it apart from the old one...
I know I am more than a bit buyest here, having just bought a Range Rover, but the only other car I really considered was the MB GL400cdi,. if it weren't for the extremely poor service they gave me a few years back I'd probably have gone for that one.
So once more, test drive the recently facelifted Rangie, let's see what you think.
