I know this is a bit off topic but, looking at a sport sav and just left the Audi showroom the Q7 is hot so now the delima Q7 or the new X5? help guys
By whose thermometer is the Q7 so hot? It looks like an upscale ambulance to me. I sat in one at the NY auto show and looking out of the windshield it had the feel of a Suburban....not sporty. I have an X5 and I'm obviously brand-biased, but I frankly believe the new X5's only rival will be, as it has been, the Cayenne. I have to stop myself from laughing rudely when people start to compare an SRT Jeep to the Cayenne. I have never heard anyone compare the SRT Jeep with an X5. I'd guess they think the X5 isn't in the same league as the 400+ hp Suvs. I've driven a client's SRT Jeep and my impression is that my 3.0 non-sport X5 will just about leave it for dead on a wet twisty mountain road with few straightaways. The SRT is hugely fast with great brakes, but its handling inspires dramatically less confidence overall which makes a world of difference (90% of $10 is more than 40% of $20) The relevance to your post being that the X5 is a real performer in the SUV realm, which includes the front-end heavy Audis, and that is no small point..... Good luck.

I feel you on the early adopter theory as i was the first to get my 530 in Richmond 04 model brought in October of 03, man but i do have to dissagree on the looks i just looked at a matalic black or dark grey one v8 3rd row everthing sup Navi. 58000.00 was more than i expected and 3rd row was almost useless but it felt good. As for the Touareg, i thought the chasis came from the cayanne? and my partner has a touareg and i drove it, rides very good have not really looked at the new x5 throughly yet, oh and this vehical would be for the wifey mostly. Thanks for the input so far
I have seen the 3.0 liter and 4.8 liter X5 in person. I was rather impressed by the exterior styling and interior roominess especially in the cargo area (a vast improvement over the previous X5) As for the 3rd row seat, not that impressed. I was contemplating on getting the 4.8 liter but, was not ready to be in the early adopter boat again.

The chasis is the same as the Cayenne and Touareg. I know 2 people who have owned the 6 and 8 cylinder versions who ran into major quality issues. They had to get rid of them for something else.

If it is your wife, why make her upset at you.

i will say something... i just hope i dont get hit saying it...
you said you wanted a sport SAV... IMHO neiter one is Sporty.. perhaps the x5 is designed to be sportier... but the new x5 has grown and with its thrid row no longer sporty in my opinon.... the same for the q7... its just a longer VW tourag.... so dont expect them to handle in a sporty way... thhere just too big...

Sorry but the Q7 looks like a pig compared to the new X5. Even though the new X5 has the 3rd row of seats, it somehow doesn't show it. It looks more aggressive, more fluid, more dynamic, while the Q7 looks like a butcher and that's it. The back of the Q7 is so fugly and that's more because of the shape of how the car ends. It's somehow disproportionated with a big strong front but also with a handicapped rear. Picture a huge pig with the front legs taller than the rear ones.

So clear winner for me as I'm sure the new X5 is the sportiest of them all, especially if packed with all the sport/aerodynamic packs. As much as it's a temptation i would also suggest to wait for a year or so to benefit both from the sorting of most of the bugs and the launching of more engines.

I think you should X5 instead. I've compared them and X5 has more power and better handling.

With our 3 kids we are now needing a 7 seater to replace our 5 year old X5. It's still many months before the new X5 gets here.
Reports I have read are that the implementation of the third row of seats in the new X5 is not that great whereas the Q7 was built from the ground up to accomodate a third row as an option.

We have test driven the 3.0D Q7 and were very impressed. We shoulod have ordered last year but I think we are still hoping that we will have the patience to wait for the new X5 and that we will like the third row of seats.

It'a funny you felt that way having driven one as the SRT Jeep actually pulls .92G - it can take a corner. It's also sub 5.0 on the 0-60 - reputedly that's wet or dry. Even the Cayenne Turbo can't match it - nor for that matter does my 550i.

Exactly. I have seen quite a few of these "rumble" by. They're beasts.
