Actually I really like it. That's the way a Porsche ought to look. Love the practical hatch.

IMO, a Porsche is not a car to slowly roll through downtown to show off. It's not to compete with the S class or 7 series. It's for weekend getaways. Now you can really pack the bags and have a thrill/joy in the canyons.
And how's that related to the hideous look?

Let me put it simple. A few years back when you said "Porsche" you ment sportscars. Now they do SUVs and sedans, and from what i've heard they plan to introduce a diesel engine. How's that related to Porsche tradition??? I mean they did the 911 for like 60 years or more and now this? Come on!
We have yet to see Ferrari SUVs and Ferrari sedans and i'm set.

Now you can take 3 of your friends and their bags and have some fun. Yes, more fun than in a 5 series, I guess.

Why is having fun only limited to two? What if you want to drive across America? If BMW can do sports sedan, so should Porsche.
And if Opel can do small town cars with 1.2 liter engines so should Porsche?

And if Volvo does trucks so should Porsche?

....

As i said. Porsche has been doing what they know best for like a century and now they went in completely new territory. Don't for one second think that if they did so well the 911 by refining it over decades they will do as good with this new car. The same was with the Cayenne. They had to really work on the Cayenne (GTS) to make it stand apart from a VW Touareg in terms of handling.

"Yes, more fun than in a 5 series, I guess. " You already correlated in your mind that Porsche>BMW. Don't be so confident. IMHO the M5 is still the king of sedans, and i don't think the Panerama will dent in any way it's title. At least not for now. So...

You don't honestly think it's the fun of a 911 do you??

It's like saying the 550i is the fun of a Z4 M coupe.

Close - starts at $89,800 for the base S up to $132,600 for the Turbo. Porsche being Porsche, of course, a decently optioned car will probably be some way north of these base prices... It's not a million miles away from 911 pricing.
