My Ride: 2003 X5 3.0----->gone 2004 Porsche Cayenne S : Gemballa front and back bodykit, fabspeed bypass pipes, Gemballa exhaust pipes, full option, 20" factory sport design rims------>gone 2005 545i 6-spd manual---->de-badged, CDV removal, Autosolutions short shift kit, resonator removal, premium package, PDC, xenon, almost full options, hardwire V1 install ....looking for mods... 2007 550i 6-spd----> Premium package, sport package, Logic7, heated everything, Rogue Engineering SSK, CDV removal, hardwire V1 install, aFe cold air intake, Custom Magnaflow exhaust....

I second that. had the cayenne S too and found the ride to be too uncomfortable with the 20' tires. However, when it comes to handling and traction in the snow, the Cayenne is simply unbeatable. The X5 is no match for it ( I changed to 18' stock rims with pirelli snows).

I also have my eye on a 06 Turbo S with teenage miles that I can purchase for @75k. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this SUV? Seems like it may be a better buy.

Cayenne Turbo S is a beast. 520hp 530 lb-ft. BMW doesn't offer a SUV of this caliber.

For you in US your choice is more difficult, because the petrol cars has less depreciation than here on europe. The price of the diesel vs petrol and the less consumption, it killed the petrol market. A ?130 V8 X5 is a lot more cheaper to get with 2 years than a ?90 diesel X5 with the same time. Mainly because it has higher costs of maintenance and fuel consumption than a diesel engine, which has similar performances. That is why porsche have different rules here. They only have petrol engines which maintain the status of rich people, and therefore it face less depreciation than other brands that have diesel engines on the same cars. If you lived here, my advice would be without any doubt to get the GTS. Now, for the US get the ML63 AMG. It is the best you can get from this type of cars: a truly sports AWD with some ground clearance.

My aunt and a close family friend have the Cayenne S Titanium package. Both of them LOVE their Cayennes, however one came from a Tahoe and one a Lexus RX.

No current X5 can match the overall on and off road performance of the Cayenne S or GTS and the turbo models are (and were) quicker than a 550.

Dude!!! Ya go for it... the Cayenne Turbo S is a monster! LOVE IT! Regular Cayenne not so much... but the turbo previous turbo S and GTS is

I don't think my point was clear, the question is/was( for me at least), do you want an SUV vs a perf AWD car.
I had myself convinced on the Cayenne S because of the perf numbers and I wanted or thought I wanted an AWD sport SuV. Coming from a perf car, the Cayenne got boring pretty quick and most people don't use them offroad or tow anything.
