I have been looking for a replacement for my 545i for some time now. In the climate I live in AWD is helpful and I have been wanted to try an SUV. The cayenne has always been on my list but bland styling and reliability issues have always ruled it out. Then I ran across the GTS. Best looking Cayenne I have seen, but by the time you are done adding all of the options price tag is over 90k. Almost turbo territory. Any insight about this SUV????

I know that Cayenne has improved quality and rates at the top of the list for on and off road performance............... but wow.... the $$$ to get it. It does hold good resale value as well . I test drove everything before buying an X5 and I would make the same choice again, sport package and V8 are a must then just get the other stuff that you want, go test drive one, I'll bet you like it !!

Don't do it Chuck!!! I can't afford to lose any more e60 members here in Mpls! While AWD is helpful here in Mpls, how often is it a must? There is always the ever popular 535xi as an option but IMHO I think the don't think the xi is needed. The Toureg...I mean Cayenne GTS looks nice but why would you want to spend all that $$ just end up with Porsche that looks nearly identical to a VW. If you have your heart set on an AWD SUV, for the $$ I would go with a Range Rover. I might be biased though.

Winding Road has a short take on the GTS in the latest issue (http://magazine.windingroad.com/wind...0802/?folio=39). Usually a more extensive review on the main site.

I have a couple of friends that bought Cayennes, and they hated them, mostly because the car drove like a truck. They have both since parted with the cars (both with just months of ownership). For that much money, I'd expect something much more refined. Have you driven an X5? Its an amazing SAV (we just bought our second one), I think you would be pleased with the performance and refinement especially compared to the Cayenne. Not to mention that a fully loaded X5 with the V8 engine is priced in the low to mid $70's.

The Cayenne is generally accepted to be about the most capable SUV on road, and it is also more capable than the X5 off road.

Capable, yes, but not the same level of refinement that the X5 has, besides which who REALLY takes these things off road anyway??

Thats weird I had driven a couple of X5's and then I drove my buddies Cayenne S. I thought the complete opposite. The Cayenne felt like a sports car, it drove awesome.

had the cayenne S. Not going back.

Ride quality was unbearable on 20".
I had air suspension on mine.

I would look at the new X5 or ML63 instead.
