VTGT, I tested the S6 when I got my first 997 back in 2007 - I'll post later with some input for you.

For me, it'd be between the E46 and E92 M3 and the RS4.
The RS4 has the engine from the V8 R8 and it's just an incredible looking car. You'll be manual though, I think, so no DCT goodness from the new M3.
The E46 is old enough that, now, mods are relatively inexpensive. You could have a monster very easily, especially with the Horsepower Freaks tuning stuff.
The new M3... it's nice, but I've preferred the E46 M3s over the new ones.
The other cars on that list don't interest me as much as these cars do.
Is a CTS-V or a 'vette out of the question? I've never been a fan of GM, but these two cars are definitely extraordinary ones and deserve some consideration.

For everyone else that voted, can you please post some rationale for your vote? I have over 20 responses to the poll, but only a fraction of the voting population have described their experience with each car

The M5 has plenty of room and goes like stink. And there's nothing on your list with a better engine sound. The 550 is a terrific all around car but, of course, isn't nearly as fast as the M5.
Of course, if you don't need the room of the M5, the M3 would be a great choice. Very fast and a top notch handler.
If straight line speed is your game, the C63 is king although the RS4 would be very fast and very rare.
Decisions decisions.

The M5 has 500 hp and V10 Exhaust note going for it.
.....And the 550i is just the smarter all around choice <----I just do not want to get it and then be bored and want an M5 a month later haha
Does the 2008 M3 still have a lot of cool features and creature comforts like the 2008 550i?

Here's my take on the S6. The long story short is that it is phenomenal. It gets misrepresented to a great extent, insofar as it is often seen as the sole occupant of a sub-class that effectively slots between the 550i/E550 and the M5/E63. My own view is that it is good enough to be right up there with the M5/E63. Handling is excellent (no real noticeable understeer), the interior is excellent and the V10 is excellent. The engine note can be more subdued than it should be or could be, but it livens up nicely under full throttle. I fully expect that a muffler swap would be all that would be needed to unleash the full fury of the V10 (which does have a familial connection to the original Gallardo powerplant). I posted here quite a lot about the S6 when I was testing it, at that time it was being tested against the M5 and E63 by the US magazines. It did very well in these tests, winning at least one and never placing lower than second. When you're competing with hardware at the level of the M5/E63, that's no mean feat.
The reasons I never ended up in one is a little strange... At that time, dealer supply was incredibly tight and there was a fairly long lead in to get one as a factory order. The net result was that the dealers were a little reluctant to discount, but that wasn't the reason I didn't pick one up. The only two cars the local dealer had available were cancelled orders, and they switched the standard 19" S6 wheels for standard A6 18" rims with all-season tires. The wheels were enough of a dealbreaker when viewed in conjunction with the dealer hardball. I actually left an E60 meet to go test drive the S6, took another long drive in the 997 right afterwards - and found the Porsche dealer in the mood for some action. I drove home that night in a 997, despite starting the day expecting to be driving home in the S6.
Anyway - it is is a fabulous car. Very understated, much misunderstood, often underestimated - but excellent nonetheless. Well worth a test drive.
