Why should it not be? Do you think that people that buy BMW only consider Merc, Lexus and Audi as alternatives?
Yes I do. Someone who is looking at a BMW 550i is not going to be looking at a Honda type R. I dont care what kind of performance bs your going to tell me, its not realistic competition.

2. Did I or indeed anyone else in this thread even mention performance?
All I'm pointing out is that for some people a Type R is a perfectly acceptable alternative to a BMW. Don't like that fact? Tough.

right, but look at the prices 2 to 3 time more in HK.
I can get a NSX and a S2000 and still can go out with lots of girls with the spair cash
But if I get the M3 well I have to stay at home and do nothing

Situation is different here in the US compared to HK. In asia countries, the cars are normally smaller in engine and power. In the US where people are very obsessed with greater power, the engine is bigger and of course more power. So if someone in Asia is looking for a BMW with power almost equal to the type R, of course the price factor will be of a matter, and put the type R into competition.

Yeah but look on the bright side, you can do as all sensible budgets do and go for the s2000 or nsx like probably most of guys over there if that's the situation, or get the most exclusive M3, more expensive yes but get the girls later as a standard package.
