So far, Lexus has:
1. No class compared to MB and BMW
2. No driving excitement like BMW

Those two are really strong factor. Reliability term is usually reserved for those who want to have prestige but don't want to spend money

Partially, I think people do buy BMW and MB for prestige, and Lexus is claiming that it has prestige. Get a life, Toyota!
what a typical and ignorant response from a wannabie yuppie bmw owner. it?s people like you who give bmw owners a bad rap. if you have so much money and prestige why do you drive a 530 and not an M5? oh wait you?re probably leasing your 530. you need to get a life b/c if Toyota wanted to they could buy BMW since they are the MOST profitable car manufacturer.

Both of you have strong opinions. While class and prestige is relative and can be argued to the end of ages, calling someone ignorant is assuming that they are closed minded, which at this point, I seem to disagree that my530i is ignorant. Perhaps he has a strong opinion of Lexus that is not shared by many of not most BMW owners.

I like it. The field is wide open on my next car. I love my 545i, but not it's current performance. I am growing disenchanted with BMW, but maybe my dealer's service dept. can save the day. 20.01.00 has taken some of the fun out of my day and the interest out of my car.

I love Lexus. It has much better quality and reliability than Mercedes and BMW, I don't think anyone is going to argue me with that.
But I always end up buying Mercedes and BMW for myself. I think there are a little bit of ignorant inside me. I still think German engineering is better than Japanese engineering (i know it's not ture). When I look at the new pictures of LS460, it looks very nice, but the interior switches still looks like it made by Toyota, I don't want to pay this kind of money to have share part with Toyota.

About Japanese manufacture copying BMW technology, I think it's is not true anymore. Japanese manufacture start using DVD Nav way sooner than BMW, the new LS460 start using HD for NAV, BMW is still working on the technology. Also the massage chair, auto parallel park, 8 speed transmission?etc.

I like the LS460 and would buy one. So is that car a 4 seater? the back seat has that huge control console in the middle and does not look like it can fold up.

I tell you if the LS460 is as reliable as the LS430 they wil kill the 7 and S550 series in sales. BMW better get the reliable part down. Looks like Lexus is closing the gap in the design department even though they are copying but so did Mercedes on the S550. The S550 rear trunk is a 7 series and interior with its own version of I drive looks exactly like BMW.

I agree on all accounts.

There was an earlier thread where I was pointing out some of the very, very close similarities between the 7 and the new S550. Among the common features: the trunk lid, jog-shuttle dial (iDrive knob), and transmission stalk.

I'm certainly interested in taking a look at the new LS once it arrives at the local dealers.

They look alike is because they hired the same Designer to do finsih touch of the car. I just saw it on morning news few days ago. Don't remember his name. But he is very young and the most powerful person in auto industries now. Many American, European and Japanese car companies want his final touch on their cars.

Anyone know his name??
