When I got my 545, I test drove the 2006 A6's, the RL and previewed the new M45. Since then, I see loads of E60's out here in Silicon Valley but have seen only one M45 in the wild, maybe a handful of RL's and just a few A6's. Obviously I'm on the lookout for E60's (of course) but I'm just amazed at how few of the others I see. Anyone else noticed the same thing??

i'm in the bay area as well, usually driving in the 680/101/880 corridors. i don't see a lot of the other cars, but i also don't seem to see a lot of e60's.

what's interesting is to see reactions from e39 owners - some look approvingly, while others seem to suggest that they are not fans of the new one.

when i do see an e60, i slow down and nod, but have yet to get acknowledgement. i usually check if they have the rear reflectors, at least to see if they're into their rides.

it would be good to run into a fellow enthusiast sometime.

The E60 has been on the market for nearly 2 years, whereas those other cars are relatively new, so I wouldn't expect to see nearly as many of them yet.

yeah, I understand - but I'm seeing a hell of a lot of new E60's too. Just very few of the competition. Don't get me wrong - happy to see more E60's out there - just surprised by seeing so few of the others. Maybe everyone in the Bay Area just has impeccable taste......

Not sure which area you guys lives in.

But so far in mission i have seen 4 M series (two M35 and two M45). Two GS.

Very few A6 or A8. Seems to be distinct. Lots of MB.

South Bay here (SW San Jose) so most of my driving is up and down the 85 to and from Mountain View. Lots of MB here as well, just surprised that I haven't seen too many M's, RL's or Audi. Only seen one GS myself as well.

I live in the bay area as well in Palo Alto. I am seeing mostly E60s and RLs-- seems to be a big upsurge in RLs lately. When it first came out, the RL was overpriced, but I've heard they are dealing now which makes it a good value and it certainly has a lot more appeal than the old RL. I have to say, the Acura engines are really impressive. I agree, the M45s are scarce. The few I've seen were not the least bit appealing and I'm predicting it won't sell very well. The GS is overpriced, and the back seat is the smallest in its class so I don't expect to see many of those either.

I think the deals on 545s and the new engine in the 530s will bring a lot of new buyers to BMW the second half of this year and we'll see many more on the road as time goes on.

I'm sure you're right about the RL - when I tested it I thought it was actually pretty good, but the dealers (I went to two) were refusing to negotiate on price or finance rates - one even told me "we'll sell it for that price whether you buy it or not so that's the price". In the end, I prefered the 545 anyway and got a way better deal on the 545 than they were offering on the RL - I lease mine (with a view to buying at lease end) and Acura were in the region of $150 per month more expensive for a 15K cheaper car. Later, the Acura dealer called me offering to to a deal - guess they didn't sell it after all........

I decided to lease as well based on the swingin' lease rates BMW has been offering on the 545i. I never got as far as talking about price on the RL. We need to replace two cars this year-- our ML320 comletely crapped out and we returned it under lemon law and we have a 1995 Maxima that has 110K that needs to be replaced. We bought an Acura TL in February for commuting and then decided after looking at the E CLass, the RL, GS and 5 series to get a BMW. Have to say I didn't even look at the M45 because it just didn't look like an appealling car to me. The EClass reliability is horrible, my wife didn't like the looks of the RL, the Lexus GS was overpriced in our opinion and the back seat was too small for 3 kids besides the fact that it drives like sofa. I really liked the handling and feel of the BMW and believe it or not, the back seat is the biggest of the group and that mattered to my wife. Anyway, our new BMW should be here in two weeks and I can't wait!

A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by a starbucks. When I returned to my car, I found a GS with dealer plates and a RL on either side. Thought that was a bit funny at the time.

Other than the A6, I see the others popping up here and there.
