I drove the E500. IT had the air cushions that inflate in curves (uncomfortable and does nothing). More than adequate power, but it doe not handle curves wortha rat's ass. Feels like more car and less nimble. With MB problems in electronic on 2001, 2003, 2004 models, I am concercernd about the computerization capabilities.
I agree, they have bent their metal quite nicely.
AUDI may be more competitive

IMO, Mercedes look better than BMWs, but I like to drive my car hard and i require good handling which Mercedes does not have. MB is better than most cars, but BMW is much better. I like to weave through traffic to get to that open stretch and open it up, or to get in front of one more car inthe city so that i can make that long light that is coming up ahead. BMW is perfect for that, MB just looks nice, can be fast, but doesn't handle well. MB will never be any competition to BMW for people that like to drive and not just ride in their car! You know, even though I like the looks of the latest E-Class i never even went to test drive one as I prefer the 5 series driving ability...Hmm...maybe I should give an E-Class a quick spin.

heh.... that means nothing, except when stock, the M5 will have A LOT less torque than the E55.....

and think about the cost to significantly improve the M5's power..... supercharging? turbocharging? any idea how expensive that will be???

since the E55 is already supercharged, making if faster is A LOT easier, and A LOT less expensive.... computer swap, pulley change, headers, exhaust.... and you have a low 11 second ride....

of course MB has things in the works..... the new NA V8 63 motor will put out 500+HP....

not to mention that BMW has nada to compete with MB's V12 Twin-Turbo engines.....

Also, don't forget that the M5 has a NATURALLY ASPIRATED V10 whereas the E55 has a blown (supercharged) V8.? That means A LOT more HP can be obtained w/ the M5 with a few mods (turbos/supercharger).? I can imagine a 800+ hp supercharged M5... drool.

I have yet to see a meaningful test where the E55 has beaten the E60 M5.

Hey! This is a Bimmer site, not a Stutgart promotion center!

[quote name='530iii' date='Jun 7 2005, 07:12 PM']Do you have any numbers/figures?

The new 750i has 361 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque so i'm guessing the 550i will be the same.

By the way there's a pic of a Red RS4 on Motor Trend's website i like the Audi Rep /? Model (brunette) too!

Actually no. It is the other way around.

It's much easier and cheaper to mod the E55. With bigger intercooler, bigger charger, a new pulley. You can get tons of power out of E55.

M5 has to squeeze for 500 HP out of that 5 liter V10. Adding a super charger or turbo kit at such high compression will kill the engine. In addition, the M5 cooling will be a huge issue. M5 did away with fog lights for additional cooling. Adding force induction to it, will be very difficult and expansive.

What you say maybe true, but it's been done on the last generation M5. What's possible then should be possible now, no?

I agree , if you close your eyes to the facts and go purely on your love for a brand than the competition will past you without you knowing what just happened. Bimmer needs to develope and v12 killer, we all would love to see that.

Negative. Maybe when i'm 60ish.

BMW drivers are tech savvy, better looking and have superior DNA.
Dude, you are so BMW bias . . . which is OK on this forum.

Tell your friend I'll smoke and school him around any day with his clk430. It's not really fair, but is life fair at all?
