Your logic is sound and I found the information counter intuitive. But I have a relative who sells tools and other auto aftermarket products, and I have read the literature.

The only thing i could think of is that for automakers who still do not use ABS on all of their vehicles, using the pressure sensors is a quicker and cheaper method of implementation.

Take the Honda Civic for example. No ABS until you get to the highest trim level.
