While I haven't driven the SRT8, I own a 4wd Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi, and even the Hemi has some incredible go to it......and, I'm amazed at how well it rides given it's weight and size. However, the seats suck....very flat, wide, and uncomfortable, and the brakes are nothing compared to the E60. I bought mine for work purposes and to have an all-surface-capable vehicle that wasn't huge like an Escalade......Tahoe.....Suburban, etc. My E60 drives/rides like a dream, but as a previous poster mentioned...the WK (Grand Cherokee) will surprise a lot of people......
Good point about braking. How well does this SRT brake? A fast ca/truck is only as good as its brakes. So if braking sucks, then this SUV sucks. What about gas mileage? Is it efficient compared to other engines of its capability? If not, it sucks. Otherwise, it's only a "fast" truck.

I like them Eric. I half heartedly tried to talk my wife into one when we got her X5. Half heartedly because I knew that she did not want a Jeep. I love the idea of beating some of the Cayenne Turbos and the Mercedes AMG E55 Wagon with a Jeep. Here is how the Jeep stacks up along with Cayenne, the Merc, and the big Dodge and Chrysler Hemis--not bad except for the Merc, and its not even a 63.

Mercedes AMG E55 Wagon RT 11/05 4.40 12.80 112.40
Jeep Grande Cherokee CD 3/06 4.4 13.2 104.0
Jeep Grande Cherokee MT 2/06 4.8 13.5 101.6
Dodge Charger SRT8 MT 7/06 5.0 13.5 106.3
Dodge Magnum SRT8 RT 11/05 5.2 13.6 105.9
Dodge Magnum SRT8 CD 9/05 5.1 13.6
Chrysler SRT-8 RT 3/05 4.9 13.3 108.2
Chrysler SRT-8 CD 6/07 4.7 13.2 109.0
Chrysler SRT-8 MT 2/05 4.9 13.2 108.1
Porsche Cayenne Turbo RT 11/03 5.0 13.5 103.3
Porsche Cayenne Turbo CD 8/03 5.0 13.5
Porsche Cayenne Turbo MT 4/05 5.1 13.6 101.8

grogan545 had one and liked it as I recall except for the gas mileage. He traded for an--I can't remember. Whatever it was he was impressed with its performance given its mileage. Could it have been a Mazda??? Sorry, I can't remember.

Hi Zman.I had a Jeep GC with the hemi, but not the SRT8.I traded for a RAV4.Best 1/4 so far for the RAV4 is 14.37 at 97mph.Not hard to take since I also average over 23 mpg.The SRT8 is in a class of its own as far as performance is concerned. Some one questioned the brakes on the SRT8.I believe it also has excellent stopping power,14" rotors front & back, also Brembo calipers.Stops from 60 mph in about 117".Definitly not an off road vehicle but will handle any foul weather conditions you might encounter.

Hi gman:

Well, I was sort of close on both counts. A Mazda is almost a Toyota.

Hummm looks like the Jeep SRT-8 will out brake a 530. 530s 60 to 0 is 118 feet!

Thats what I dont get people just cant seem be give credit when credit is due... cant buy into the fact that a Jeep might possibly be faster, maybe match in cornering, out brake their "Ultimate Driving Machine" and beat them on a track or twisty...

Sorry i won't ...untill i find an SUV that will outrun me on my favorite bits of road then i will. I'd like to know what this thing is capable of on many other tracks (on the ring, TG...and many more).

I wish someone will get one and give you a run for you money and see how it does...

Well.....the brakes are not bad, but in my Jeep....I just don't feel them grabbing and stopping as quick, easy, and smooth as my 550........maybe that's my perception, but I drive both the jeep and E60 a lot....as for mileage......it gets about 11 mpg around town....not that much worse than the 550. On the freeway, it has the MDS system.......which, in a nutshell, shuts down 4 cylinders at cruising speed. On the highway, driving diligently at 65 (I ALWAYS drive the speed limit ) the JGC can get between 19-21 mpg. It's really sensitive to speed....if there is any power demand at all, all 8 cylinders kick in........and SLURP!!

I like my Jeep....it's a nice, fairly comfortable, flexible vehicle that suits my needs......I got mine loaded for $200 over invoice before they started the "family" discounts, and then got $3500 back in rebates. It does handle well, and I've driven it hard around corners just to see if I could get it to spin or lose traction....and I can't.....fairly impressive for a heavy vehicle. Jeeps aren't for everyone, but I like 'em!!

Then i'll bow to that somebody whoever is. If he/she can outperform on my favorite bit of road then i'll probably sell my car the next day and getting an M after that.

No doubt I think the E60 brakes are better overall. They feel better and is more linear. BUT as far as performance wise how fast it can stop the car/SUV from 60 mph at MAXIMUM stopping power everything at the limit (talking all numbers) the SRT-8 can "out stop" the 530 according to whatever I quoted above... I forgot hahaha

time to trade up to a SRT-8. dump the 5.7L

You think? What about a 545i or 550i stopping power? You think that jeep can outbrake the E60? I dunno why but i doubt it....
Do you have any data to compare?
