In short, the hp war will last as long as the market will subsidize it. Once the cost of ownership (gasoline, purchase/lease cost, insurance, registration & taxes) of the high hp vehicles gets too high, then unit sales will drop and the manufacturers will invest their R&D $$ elsewhere they can make a profit.
