Whats wrong with a VW Phaeton. That car was awesome. Those in the know would never mock that car. The point made by others was that VW tried going upscale and was unsuccessful because consumers dont view VW as a luxury car maker. The same may go for Nissan but maybe not in this case because this car has already achieved cult status from a certain group of gearheads who've idolized the skyline for years. That car was unattainable. The hype has been built up for years as far as a replacement for the legendary skyline. It's now here. This car wont compete with any other car. The buyer of the GT-R will only want a GT-R. You wont get someone stuck between a ZR-1, a 911 or a GT-R. Cross shopping wont exist with this car. You either want one or you dont.
+1 on the Phaeton. You basically can get an Audi A8 for half the price (if you find a slightly used Phaeton). They have amazing interiors. I sat in the back seat of one, and the leg room was amazing. It was like a limo. Too bad it weighs 6000 pounds and is no fun to drive.

Keep telling yourself it is a great car at 100k and you might believe it, I know you do but sounds like no one else does.

I heard that VW was going to try the Phaeton again - i thought they were nice the first time around (i got to play with a few in Munich before they came out in the US, and then a friend here got one) but if they try again they should be GREAT.

I dont know about the honda over acura argument, ive always thought VW made fairly decent interiors. case in point (for me at least) i have one friend with an a4 and another with a jetta ... there are certainly some things on the a4 that are better, but overall the jetta isnt bad. especially for the money compared to the audi. would i purchase the audi over the jetta? yes i would - but it also costs significantly more.
Its unfortunate VW doesn't take advantage of it cult following (not dissimilar to nissan) and make a TRUE performance version(or maybe they already do? i dont know) - a RS4 equivalent jetta if you will. It certainly wouldn't sell widely (neither does the RS4) but if produced in limited numbers i think it would do well without usurping 'big brothers' buyers

Not to get too terribly off topic (of course, the original topic of this thread is about worthless anyway), but I totally agree on the VW comment. My wife had one of the "new" Jettas in 1999 that had the VR6 engine and a 6spd manual, and it was a blast to drive. Then, a couple years later, VW dropped the 6cyl option and only offered two 4-cyl options. I don't know what they were thinking. I have a feeling the folks at Audi keep a tight reign on how "sporty" VW can get. The R32 Golf was a pretty cool car, but that was the only model VW offered here in that type of trim.

You said 100k in your earlier post, you said it would sell for 100k.

For a guy a who could care less what everyone thinks, you sure like to keep pushing your worth of the GT-R down people's throat. No one here is going to validate the value you put on this Nissan. It's a niche market car and you're trying to push it to the wrong crowd. For someone who's so convinced this is the "it" car, why aren't you buying one?
