As my 530d is reaching the end of warranty, I inevitably started looking around for something different to drive.
I don't see the point of getting another E60, as mine is near enough full options and I'll be taking a big financial hit for almost the same car.

Another reason I don't want another E60 is the way depreciation works, in the UK at least.
There are no option packs here, as there are in the US and Holland for example. That means that no options apart from basic leather and auto 'box are taking into account for depreciation.
A car like the RR Vogue SE is, apart from a towbar, near enough full options, and will depreciate a lot more sensible.
As an example, BMW and RR both have offered me GBP 17,000 for my car, at 75,000 miles. Not bad if it was a basic one retailing at 35k, but mine costed 51k..
A bit of a hit.

Another reason is that I need something roomier. I have tried the 7, but it's a chauffeur car in the UK. Don't need it to be too sporty either, as I bought that Z4 last summer (which is a great car btw).
RR do a really nice V8TD, just the right engine for me.
The RR sport is prettier, but my god what an awfull interiour. The cheapest out of date job you'd ever see in a luxury car. The RR just got an interiour upgrade.

BMW offered another years' warranty at half price, because of the issues with mine. What to do.
Anybody here ever owned a RR?
All thoughts welcome..

 

Interesting, we have a similiar dilemma!. My car has just left warranty (bought used at 6 months old), and have turned down the (full price for me) extended 1yr warranty offer, althought this is really because I've had no real issues with my car and I'm betting that any problems I do have if I keep the car another year won't exceed the cost of the warranty.

Have begun idly looking (not sure if I won't keep mine for longer) and have looked at, amongst other things, (used) LR RR's. However one of the main reasons is the attractive price now, relative to the size and quality of the vehicle and it's price when originally new. So I'm actually interested in an RR because of the depreciation hit they seem to take!

So I wouldn't be too sure about one retaining that much more of its % value after 3 years?, especially in this UK market now, with the inevitable further tax rises and extra charges which are going to be loaded onto the back of this anti-4x4 bandwagon thats definately building.

I'm not trying to be rude - really, but you have welcomed opinions!!. 75k miles is high for 3 years, which has depressed the trade-in value of your car by a couple of thousand maybe max. Granted, this combined with the high purchase price does seem a bit of a downer. But personally, I just don't think such depreciations can be avoided these days in the UK, especially on bigger and more luxurious cars like you're 5, a 7, or an RR, especially when they're purchased brand new. The bigger and more luxurious, the worse it just seems to be. S-Class, A6, A8, they're all just as bad? (Lexus GS or LS seem to lose slightly less, but who'd want to?).

I think you're right to avoid the Sport in favour of the fully grown RR though. The Petrol Sports are outrageously thirsty, based on the Disco, and once the last of the footballer's car thing has moved on from them I think they'll be diving in price secondhand too.

How about a barely used Individual E60?! (on the AUC site right now). Or based on the value which old X5's have previously been able to retain, a new X5 may be one of the better bets % wise?

Reliability may be an issue still with the Range Rover. In JD Power's U.S. 2006 survey, Land Rover owned 3 of the 5 worst ratings (LR3, RR, RR Sport) - and this is out of 200+ models rated.

Porsche or Lexus are better bets for worry-free ownership among SUVs.

 

That's good to know. I was thinking about the RR Sport. Maybe I'll go back to looking at the X5's...even though I'm not a fan of how they look. :thumbsdown:

For some reason I cannot get excited about the X5, not even the new one. I had an X3 which I sold after just over a year.

As it happens, my office is in Enfield. You might have seen my Z4 and Cooper S in the drive on Baker Street..

The dilemma still stands though, as the 530 went in for yet another reprogramming session..

 

I assume that an M5 might be out of your fin. reach. Never thought about an 535d E61?

 

Like I said, I don't really want or need another E60, might as well keep the one I have then. I just want something different now.

Have you thought about a one or two year old A8 - they have taken a big hot already and are very well built.
I could be tempted by the W12 with a service package (as most used ones seem to have).

That aside, take the half price warranty and keep it another year, how much more can it lose in the next 12 months? - this must be the most sensible option (not that I have ever been sensible with cars!)
