Edit: The list below has been updated to contain cars that would not be considered to be "lesser known." All of the 545i/550i "threats" might as well be listed below.

Hi Friends:

Occasionally some of us do bad; we engage in low-speed streeties when the setting seems safe to all. Just for fun I developed a list of possibly lesser-known cars that might unmake a 545i or 550i driver's day if not paying attention to the car next to him or her. The list is sorted first on 1/4 time and then on 0 to 60 time.

That 1/4-mile time doesn't seem to match that 60mph time. The TT must have a very agressive 3rd and 4th gear ratio to make up some ground in a quarter-mile sprint. I also wonder what the trap speed is.

Thanks for the stats, Don.
Hello Pennyurion. You are right; the two times don't match very well. Later today I'll try to check my reference. Also, the speeds are not given in the C&D road test summary; darn. You are welcome.

Nice list.

What about "lesser knowns" like the Evo? Or the WRX-STI? Or even the Elise (and now Exige)?

Dunno their numbers off-hand, but I'm pretty sure each of those buggy-wagons could give the 545/550 a good run for its money from a standstill ... maybe (definitely?) even outrun it.

P.S. Oh, and what about trucks? I believe the Ford SVT-F-150 Lightening does a 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds. And I'm pretty sure the Dodge Ram SRT is even quicker in the off-cited 0-60 benchmark.
Hi ipse d:

Some of the cars you mention are in other data bases, and I don't have access to test data for all cars that might have been included in this one. You are right about the cars you mentioned as being problems for our 5er's, but they are sub-14 second cars; this data base pertains to "fourteen"-second cars. I think the only slightly sub-fourteen second car I included above is the Lexus IS 350.

The Dodge Charger seems faster than the 5er at the 1/4 trap. Znod, are you in the "no replacement for displacement" camp? Just though I ask. Maybe your in the middle since you still have that RX-7.

Hi B32:

I am not sure what you are asking. Below are the charger numbers. And, I agree that the Charger appears trap faster--although given the other numbers it looks too fast. I'll check my source on this one to manana. And, I don't understand about the "camp" and me maybe bein "in the middle." me here.

Replacements or mods like turbo and superchargers on those tiny (usually Japanese) engines compared to the large displacement (engine) on the Vette, Mustanges, Chargers, etc? There seems to be rivals of replacement camp versus the displacement camp.
