There's a windy, curvy road between Sonoma and Napa counties in northern California that's little-known to anyone but the locals, who use it as a shortcut between the two valleys. Nevertheless it has reasonably good pavement and people sometimes use it to test their cars and/or their driving skills.

Today I was riding my bicycle near the top of the hill on that road when I was passed by a large RV. Right behind the RV was a small, exotic-looking sports car that I didn't recognize. At the same time that one part of my brain realized that the car's engine was silent, the other part of my brain was able to make out the five widely-spaced letters on the back of the car: T E S L A.

First one I've seen in real life.

I tried to catch up at the bottom of the hill to get a better look but no dice.

Very cool. I saw a test on one in Road and Track recently. Amazing technology. Kinda freaky on a bike though since you can't hear it coming up behind you.

I saw one in Cambridge/Boston back in April, I was so excited to see it! I took a picture of it, but unfortunately it was at night, and the light on my camera phone only works so well! Oh well! It was exciting nonetheless!

It's a pretty cool car for sure!

The road to which you are referring is the Oakville Grade, correct?

That is an awesome twisty road. I run it everytime I go to the Wine Country. Great driving!

Actually I saw one on the west side highway heading towards the fdr with california plates. I tried to pull near the guy but he thought I was racing him and sped off, very weird cause no noise.

I was actually near there in Sausalito last week and went sight seeing over by Robin Williams' home and he had a Tesla sitting in the car port, maybe you saw him.
