I don't know if I can give up the sound of the V8. brian1225's B&B exhaust combined with the V8 is simply awesome!

They say that the battery will last 100-120,000 miles (150-200,000 km). The interesting thing though is that as the several thousand cells are distributed all over the car, I suspect replacing them will be impossible. This is a car that practically has a finite life span - no matter now well you maintain it.

BTW: I am not sure there is any technological "improvement" in putting a gearbox on an electric car - in my view it's a backward step, and an admission that the technology (mostly accumulator/battery technology) has not yet improved enough to allow for "decent" performance without the gears, though clearly it's the easiest way of combining acceleration and top speed without spending a fortune on the motor itself.

I am glad to see that electric technology has advanced so far. I am looking at maybe buying a hybrid or electric in the future if the cost is reasonable and performance does not suffer much.

BMW seems to be way behind on this technology, so maybe I will eventually be a Lexus owner (gasp!).

Take a look at this, the Wrightspeed X1, another electric car prototype from a Silicon Valley startup.

The video below shows the Wrightspeed utterly trounce both a Ferrari 360 and a Carrera GT at Infineon Raceway. It's amazing to watch. The Wrightspeed is built on the Ariel Atom chassis.

Road test review of the Tesla in Motor Trend. This sounds like fun ...

I'm almost grimacing as I release the brake and pound the accelerator to the floor. Whrrrrrrr...30 mph, 40 mph, 50...in the four seconds it's taken to read this sentence, the Roadster has shrieked to 60 mph (Tesla's claimed 3.9 seconds would seem entirely plausible in a controlled setting). There's no wheelspin, axle tramp, shutter, jutter, smoke whiff, cowl shake, nothing. I'm being eerily teleported down the barrel of a rail gun, head pulled back by a hard, steady acceleration. Bizarre. And before too long, profoundly humbling to just about any rumbling Ferrari or Porsche that makes the mistake of pulling up next to a silent, 105-mpg Tesla Roadster at a stoplight.

What a wonderful example of technology without getting your Johnson in the way !! It would be hilarious to see this car thrash other non suspecting drivers in performance vehicles and have the results on tape...........
