We don't get Infiniti in the UK so can't comment. The five has won every UK car test that its ever been in against the likes of Merc, Audi and Jag

I don't know if you've watched "5th Gear" on Speed Channel.? They reviewed the 5 series... and the huppie guy (I dont remember his name) said something about showing up in a Bimmer 5er is like walking to a party with a super model who needs no introduction.? wherease if you show up with some plain jane, you would want to tell everyone, oh, she's a great cook and really good in bed, and good with the kids and oh yes, she's a doctor etc....
Great analogy. I might have to use that one someday.

I read that review as well. The writers were pretty clear that the 5 lost points in subjective areas such as styling and interior. They were also clear that the 5 was the best car of the bunch.

As far as I'm concerned, the M loses out in exactly the areas where the 5 lost points. The styling of the M is OK at best. There's nothing really wrong with it but neither is there anything great about it. It's somewhat bland which is probably were the overload on the chrome to give the car some presence. For the interior design, well, what exactly is that thing in the dash. Looks like a piece of furniture not something appropriate for an automobile, especially a sport-luxo box in this class.

Mind you, the 5 has a few styling quirks of its own. But you can't beat the drive and that is after all why we buy the car. Take it from someone who's driving a 7. I love the toys but miss the driving excitement. Ultimately while the 7 is a great car, it doesn't quite do it for me purely on disappointment as a driver's car.

same thing I discover everytime I sit from my E90 330i to E60 of any kind...

E90 smaller, more drivers car, agile, more on the road... E60 is a giant squid when you compare it to E90

butttttttt, again its all matter of preference, I also own E30 325i which is like a karting comparing to E90 which is soundproof, comfy, softer etc

mario_zg,

I notice the same thing too.
I own a '02 325i and a '04 545i and after driving the 3, stepping into the 5 makes the car feel like it is huge. It works the opposite way as well...after driving around in the 5 then stepping into the 3 makes it seem a little tight inside.

But here's the best part of it all...I can aggressively drive both cars the same way. The 545 is just one bad ass car for its size.

I agree. I'm coming from a 2003 e46 330i. Let me tell you, the 545i with the sport package comes pretty darn close as far as handling goes. And the power! Whoa!

Dobar Dan Mario,

Vidim da si iz Zagreba

Agree with you on the differences between 3 and 5. For me, to go from a 7 to 3 is a bit too much. I still feel somewhat claustrophobic in the new 3. Rear seat space is better but entry/exit is difficult. The E60 seems like a good compromise between 7 and 3.

Hi Guys,

excuse me, who will put his money in an infinity or Lexus where it is very hard to deferrentiate them from AVALON or Maxima...

the 5 series you know it from a 100 mile away it is unike and has very attractive look..

Absolutely!! I've seen both the new M and GS and they just blend (or is that bland?) with the rest of traffic. Say what you will about the styling, the 5 stands out from the crowd.
