Honestly the 6 series back seats are no more functional than those in the 911. No adult will sit in the back of either car for more than 20 minutes. I am having a hard time believing anyone would choose a car based on a nav system. How often does nayone use this? I have it in my car, but rarely ever use it. Hell the Garmin systems are cheaper and better than what most factory versions offer anyway. I am truly biased because I am a 911 owner. It is a daily driver and it a joy to drive every day. It is as practical as a series, and a hell of a lot more fun to drive. I had to make the decision between 911 and M6. No brainer really from a fun perspective. The only way the 6 really wins this is if you need ample trunk space. My advice on that would be pack lighter ;-)

Well the reason why im basing the selection on navigation and xenon is because most cars over 20k these days has at least xenon in it and were talking about almost a 90k car with not even navi. But even the salesman who I know will breathe down my neck and tell me the functionality of porsche is not the same as a luxury car, whatever

im assuming you used to have an E60? What is your 997 specs and how did you like the transition of it from your E60.

I agree, at the very least it should have Xenon. I could care less about the Navigation.

Yea definitely. I x'ed the carrera completely, its practical for a second car but not for my daily needs. So now its CLS vs 6series...
What car are you replacing?

I would rather have a M5 over both of those cars.

Well if you're paying 90k you should be getting a Carrera S which has xenon standard.

The 2009 facelift models also push bi-xenons down to the base Carrera as well. Bigger news of course are the new DFI engines and the PDK double clutch transmission but it looks like the facelift models are going to benefit from some general spec upgrades.

Apples or oranges? I realize the CLS is high performance, but these are two different animals IMO.

Yea the 09's are going to be great, huge improvement it seems but unfortunately they wont hit shelfs till September. Porsche is very pricey to have a decent model, if you half ass a 997 you get nothing and its still going to cost you alot. A decent equipped 997 is a solid 100k but it doesn't have performance numbers like the M6 does. I guess 997 owners have some true passion for the car.

There really is too many cars out there, I'm all over the place I dont even know. They're practically giving away 7series these days. Problem with that, too many ghetto ass people bought old ones with a billion miles on it and ruined the perception of the car. If that makes any sense or has any significance to car buying CLS hasnt been out long enough to be in the 30's price range so its still somewhat exclusive I guess.

997 vs M6 is a great dilemma to have! I'm with you on many of your points, a Porsche certainly isn't cheap, but you're a little off on your performance assessment. The only area where an M6 will always beat a 997 S for example is in top speed. In other respects, and particularly in handling and braking, the 997 S will do pretty well and will hold its own. Both great cars, I'd be very happy with either. Based on your post I suspect you were looking at a base Carerra and the cabriolet, and that's a great car, but it's not the quickest of the 997s if that's what matters to you. Of course the M6 cab starts at about 106K and itself isn't exactly brimming with equipment. If you were looking at the M6 coupe, you really need to be looking at the 997S coupe. Unfortunately, whichever way you go, you're going to have to pay to play, my friend!

CLS is a great car, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I would rather have a S550.

My sister was looking at the same exact two cars, CLS vs. 6-series. She ended up getting a 650. For some reason I see a lot of females driving 6ers.

If you aren't worried about rear seat room, check out the M3 coupe. Mini M5 that handles way better. The new double-clutch transmission is amazing.
