I have a friend who bought a fully loaded Lexus GS300 AWD last year for the usual Lexus attributes (price, build, features, reliability). He is now bored out of his mind with it and is looking to get a BMW. Just something to consider.

Well after two 5 series in a row..(just loved my BMW's) My lease is over in 4 months and I'm not excited to get back in the exact same car.

I just tested a Lexus GS 350 2007 and I was very surprised

300HP 5.7 sec 0-60...more than 1 sec better than the 530
Softer ride but road handling was not that bad ...tighter than a Merc. but not a BMW.
Great acc...at every speed very powerful and stable brakes

More technology, more luxury for less money 10 % LESS AT LEAST
Bluetooth, homelink, automatic trunk closing at no extra charge, great cup holder and better storage space, touch screen, seat confort better IMO

We all know about Lexus beeing very reliable and the service is top notch ( I won't even talk about BMW)
The looks are really a matter of personnal taste...I like both

BMW still has the prestige and the handling..and I'm undecided right now...my first reaction after the test drive was How long can BMW hold on their share of the market...great cars but they are starting to be overpriced IMHO

Just beeing objective

Good luck they are both great cars ( but at your age..it would definitely be a BMW )
basicly if you are young I will go for E60 and if you are old and have alot of kid, I go for the Lexus.
My dad is over 65 now and he is still driving, we share the E60 together and before the mods my dad loved the car and after all the mods he love it even more now.
He say he will always buy BMW. He like the Lexus but he what to feel the road more.
There is 1 more thing, there is not that much stuff for mod on the GS350 unlike the E60 tons and tons.

I want to again thank everybody for their inputs and perspective. This forum really got me thinking about our next purchase, whether its teh house or a new car. I will take everyone's inputs very seriously and will be pondering this decision for a while. Seems like everyone is in agreement here, lexus for the interior build, and beemer for the driving experience. Thank you all for this and hopefully I can start joining you guys here as regulars on this board...

sigh... so sorry to say goodbye to e46fanatics.....

I see that you like driving more than sitting then.
You are a wise man and welcome to the E60 world.
Happy Bday too

You will basically be choosing between more luxury, but complete disconnect from the road, and boredom (Lexus) and excitement, grin on your face when driving (BMW).
I have driven both cars and the Lexus is very silent, but feels to me more like a Lincoln. When I got back in my E60 right after driving the Lexus, it was a big relief and I apologized to my car right away for cheting on it (her, him???).......

THIS IS FUNNY, AND I TOTALLY AGREE...
