The CLK is a beautiful car, too.? The CLK430 is hot.? The new CLS will be sleek.? But all too adult.? Plus I'm afraid people think the CLK is a chick car.? Undeserved, because it's a great car with that V8; but it wouldn't age as well as the 545 will.
Totally agree!!! CLK is definitely a girl car..... Just looks too girly for a man. Even I've seen some on the street that are largely modified, I still feel it should be driving my my rich neighbour's daughter...

Thought I?d bring this thread back up!

1982 Ford Capri 1.6 SE
1986 Renault 21 1.7 GTS
1990 Ford Sierra 2.0i GLS (First 'fast' car 125bhp!)
1993 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16v (150bhp - Looks amazing, fast, shame about the chassis)
1996 Alfa Romeo 164 2.0 (148bhp) Twin Spark Super Lusso (A posh black Alfa, and that engine, what a noise!)
1999 Saab 9-5 2.0T SE (192bhp) - Very fast, very comfortable, very reliable, very nice.

2002 Saab 9-5 2.3HOT Aero (250bhp) - Incredibly fast, put your foot down and get an extra boost for 270bhp, what a rush, all the toys. Tragically the interior self combusted in my driveway in the middle of the night, causing it to be written off. I'd have had another but....

2004 BMW 525d M Sport - ...I didn't want to risk another horror story that I had with the Saab, it was between an A6 2.0 TDI SE, E220CDI Elegance, or the 525d Sport.

My first diesel, my first RWD since the Ford, my First BMW.
What do I think? Well I miss the outright poke of the now dead Saab Aero, but the quality it top notch, it looks fantastic with that M bodykit and 18" M wheels, the 6 Cyl engine sounds lovely, and has some poke, and the interior is, very nice.

I never thought I'd become a BMW driver, but it won my heart as it was, incredibly, the best value, and the fastest given the competition at the time. It's also the most expensive (company car) i've had at ?36,500ish inc extras like prof radio/sat nav, adaptive xenons, heated seats, bluetooth, adaptive mirrors etc.

I have a kid now and I never thought that I would have considered a 5 series, but after trying a baby seat in an E46 M3 coupe (which must have looked comical), I took a look at the 5 series and opted for the 530. I love it.

My wife, being the more reasonable thinker in our family, made the point that a 545 would be a waste as it would primary be a baby mobile. And that I should wait for the new E90 M3 when it arrives as my weekend car.

It's funny how having a baby changes you, since then I've been lusting after the 745 (a car I disliked when I first saw it) and have put the M3 out of my mind.

Am I getting old?

I've been driving BMW's since 1996. What made us buy the E60 ? Is it a
character thing, does your car history suggest a trend towards dynamic performance driving , did you suddenly become rich and decided BMW is the one
that represents you ? What are the owner's comment's ?

History and comments ( always for fun and interest ), for me :
started driving at 17, since then had:

Audi 80 FOX
Volvo 164
Ford Falcon ( 302 Windsor ) Holley 550 4 barrel ( 5.0 litre ) WOW!! Petrol guzzler..
Nissan 200B stationwagon ( what was I thinking? )
Ford Escort 1.6
Alfa Romeo Sprint QV ( nice )
Alfa Romeo 145
Maserati 222 ( maintanance freak )

at this point I got a good job....result :

E36 318i ( good )
E46 328i current ( better )
E60 545i on order ( )

For me, the E46 328i has been the most successful car in term of performace,
efficiency, finance...a fine all round performer.
Although I seriously test drove the Mercedes E500, Audi A6 4.2 - they just didn't
do it for me in terms of dynamics and beauty.

The E60 is going to be an awesome car ...I predict I will always stay a BMW man
I'll give it a try. Owned cars--my wife and I (and kids some of the time)--matched up--sort of.

1960 Chevrolet/195? Plymouth
1960 Austin Healy Sprite/1960 Covair Monza
1967 Ford Fairlane 7 Liter/1960 Covair Monza
1968 Mustang/197? Ford Falcon
1971 Maverick/1970 Chevrolet Impala
1973 Celica/1973 Corolla Wagon/Newer Corolla Wagon
1972 VW Convertible/2nd Newer Corolla Wagon/1971 VW
1983 Supra/1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE (great car--see my sig)
1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II (heavily modded) (great car--sold recently)/Ford Probe Turbo/1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE (great car--see my sig)/198? Acura
1994 Mazda RX-7 (heavily modded) (great car--sold recently)/199? Camry/199? Acura
2002 Z06/2001 Lexus RX-300/All the RX-7's
2002 Z06 (greater than great car)/545i (only owned 6 mos, but great car so far)/4.4i X-5 (only owned 6 mos., but great car so far)

I had the 3 heavily modded RX-7's for many years finally disposing of two of them when we got the 2 BMW's. We'll see if the BMW's, like the Z06, turn out to be greater than great cars or only great cars. I predict that they will.
