No doubt, this is the best car I've ever owned!!!

It is my first Bimmer, but I've been a BMW lover since I started driving (16 years ago). I patiently waited until my financial situation could handle a Bimmer payment and I went for the gusto. I thought the 3 series (except for the M3 which I considered) was way too popula.

Here is a list of cars I own/have owned:

Past
1979 Chevy Malibu
1989 Ford Tempo
1994 Chevy Baretta
1996 Pontiac Grand Am (My wife's car when we got married)
1998 Toyota 4Runner
Current
2001 Subaru Outback (My wife's current car)
2001 Ford Taurus (My daily driver and winter ride)
2004 BMW 530i (My baby)

In reverse order:

2004 BMW E60 545i SMG (best car ever)
2001 BMW E39 540i 6-speed
1998 BMW E39 540i 6-speed
1989 BMW E30 M3 (still own)
1984 Toyota Supra 5-speed
1979 Toyota Supra 5-speed

(no reason to post the wife's cars...nothing too exciting there!)

All cars were fun but nothing even comes close to the E60!

I've actually never owned a true BMW, although I've been lusting after one since
1992. For some reason, something else always came up/caught my eye and I never made the plunge. Hopefully that will all change in the next few days though

1983 Datsun 280ZX (first car--still admire it)
1987 Ford Escort (all I could afford while living in the UK)
1993 Mazda MX-3 V6 (first new car I ever purchased)
1991 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo (used--but wickedly fast)
1997 Dodge Ram (360ci V8--need I say more?)
19?? Ford Sierra Cosworth wanna-be(run around car in Italy)
2000 Fiat Punto (run around car while in Italy)
2001 Toyota Avensis (family car while in Italy)
2002 Toyota Avensis Verso (upgraded family car)
2003 Mini Cooper S (almost a BMW--loved it)
2003 Audi A2 1.6 S Line current wifes car
2004 Chrysler Pacifica AWD current car--pending sale

I'm one of the older members (but can't hold a candle to JDN), so my history looks like this: Started driving at 16 --

1961 Olds Starfire convertible (this baby did 0-60 in under 7 seconds)
1964 Olds Starfire (did not have the pizazz of the '61)
1971 Audi 100 (good car; good handling with front wheel drive)
1975 Audi 100 (bad car; electronic brain failed repeatedly; so unreliable I had to get rid of it after two years)
1977 Peugeot 604 (first manual I owned; wonderful car - went up to 100,000 miles when another car lost control and totaled it)
1986 Mercedes 300E (manual; still own - giving to my 16 yr old daughter; fantastic car - I just replaced the original clutch at 180,000 miles)
2004 530i (so far -- great car; technically outstanding engineering-wise; too early to tell if it has the quality of the old Mercedes)

car history
1975 was given a 1963 (?) SAAB 91 (?)
1976 bought a 1968 (?) SAAB 94 (?) for 700USD
1987 bought a 1970 Jaguar E-type 2+2 (used it as a utility car for 10 yrs +100.000 km winter and summer - most economical car I?ve ever had. Bought it at 6000 USD sold it twelve years later for almost 20k with only minor renovations done)
1997 bought a 1988 Chrysler Town & Country (the rarest in the bunch actually - only 2 in the country and the greatest eyecatcher so far with extreme 3D fake wood panels). I suspect in the US this would be called a LeBaron Woody.
1999 got a BMW 320D (first car bought new - extremely low fuel cons. I have bought less than 10.000 litres of diesel and the car has run more than 200.000 km)
2004 BMW 530D touring on order

best
