Did you buy the early year S80 ? It was buggy as it first came out in 1999. It is fairly stable now ....
The Volvo S80 was a year 2000. Whether it's more stable now (with respect to bugs) is irrelevant to me- frankly I'm still surprised that it's being sold, and I don't see too many of them. It's no safer than any other well built car in that price range, even though Volvo would have you believe otherwise. I thought that it handled poorly- the torque steer is annoying, especially with the T6 engine, and it did not feel balanced. As an alleged luxury car it did not have the refinements expected in a car of this class. I got taken, plain and simple, even though I test drove it. There's a difference between driving it around the city and on a few highway miles, versus really putting a car through its paces. Back then I should have bought the 2000 528i straight away. Live and learn.

Its amazing but people see Volvo as being well built motors that are very safe. Having had two models I know differently, realistically they are badly built cars that offer no more protection than any other car. The new Volvo S40 is actually an over priced Ford Focus. The out going model is an overpriced mitsubuishi Charisma as they came off the same line in the Netherlands that the old Dafs used to be built on in the 70's. Same build quality

I thought new GS300 drives pretty good. What makes you hate it in just a month?
You must be mis-informed then. That thing handles like a boat and rjjr nails it, you can't drive by feel, you have to guess the amount of input you need as there's no feedback from the car basically.

You only learn through your mistake, so enjoy your car now.

Volvo, I hate that car. Is like a box on wheels if you ask me and the engine noise arrgghhh... terrible. They gave me one as a loaner when I took my E46 in for service as the owner of the BMW dealer also own the Volvo dealer down the street. After that I never went back to that dealer for service

I think Lexus might be more appealing to older ppl who care about smooth quiet rides. Then again, you have the 7er for that

Maybe a Porsche?

I test drove a GS430 before I got my 545i and it was so sterile and unexciting by comparison.

Welcome back to the family!

In March I purchased a new Lexus GS300. I hated the car after about the first month of driving it.

I had really regretted not going with the BMW as I had traded an 03 530i in on the Lexus. I realized what I was missing.

Anyway.

I was able to trade the Lexus in on a new 550i. The dealer took care of me and it cost me about 4K to get out of the Lexus.

I'm one happy camper and the new BMW should be at the dealer friday or monday. I can hardly wait.
Wouldn't the GS400 be more comparable to the 550i

I don't think so. I'm not sure about 0-60 times but two cars are totally different. I have been so happy with my 550i the cost was well worth it.
The handling is so much better and I'm not concerned with racing in a straigh line. Put me on the twisty bits and try to keep up.
