We did 2 little exercises in the caterhams - a 'head to head' race on 2 identical 'circuits' (more like a skidpan really) which was one big slide (including donuts) and a more traditional timed event around a tightly twisting circuit. Of all the cars I drive on the day the Caterhams were the most physical (I ended with bruises!). They broke traction extremely easily and so demanded a very smooth driving style - not too much accelerator, brake or steering. When sliding they were very easy to control - perfect powersliding car really - but we were going for speed so we were encouraged to push hard - when I span it was because I applied to tight a steering lock or carried slightly to much speed into a corner. Once I started to lose control - there was no correcting it - straight into a spin.
I've only bought evo twice! The last one I bought had this article in it:

From memory - I thought the M5 was faster than the massa around the bedford circuit. If it wasn't and the posted time is for the e60 M5 then my first though is that the 330i (my next car) did VERY well indeed to get so close to the M.
The other thing that made me think this was the e39 M5 was that the M3 was quicker. When Top Gear lapped the cars the M5 was much faster than the M3.

Sorry nfs i got carried away with the E60 m5 thing. Thanx for the story. I dunno for whatever reason i thought that caterhams are very hard to brake traction (alot of grip) and when they did, it would be all lost.
BTW: A bit off topic i hope you can enlighten me on this. When drifting with my car, i sometimes get weird feeling when i start applying the oposite lock. When i do that at higher speeds and drifting at a more agressive angle i have to apply more oppostie lock of course, as you can imagine, but sometimes i feel that the front outer tire (like when drifting on a left corner, the right front tire for eg) feels like it's going to unmount from the rim. I dunno if that's what it's probably tries or i dunno but it sure feels that way. And it's acompanied with punishing sound that i can't really describe. Do you feel me? What's actually doing and how normal is it? Cuz immediatley when i detect that i get scared away and reduce the opposite lock, sometimes too fast and causes visible fish-tailing. Also i want to add that happens only in the dry.

What I am surprised about is that the west circuit is fast - as you come out of the pits you accelerate for a couple of hundred yards then brake hard for a hairpin - you can pretty much accelerate away then- through a couple of easy bends then floor it all the way to the other end of the circuit, where you have to brake hard for a sharp right then left onto a long tight corner.
Then there is a long straight - a quick left / right followed by a very fast left then an equally fast right and home.
It's not massively twisty - so I would have thought the M5 would have put a BIG distance between it and the 330i - what do you make of this?
BTW - I just downloaded a game called TOCA race driver - and it has the palmer sport cars and bedford autodrome circuits on it - I can re-live my big day now.

Quattroporte faster round a circuit than the M5????? :'( :'(
That's 400 BHP, 1860 kg and probably several hundred million Euro of development budget less than the M5.
Maybe they forgot to hit the 500 BHP button on the beemer?

I did the west circuit in a 350z last night in 70 secs (on my PC). Does that mean it's faster than the carrera GT?
