Hi Gang:
We have out of town guests this weekend--great friends, including being drag-race friends from high school. I raced one of my friends in his modified 4.6 auto shift Mustang. He is a frequenter of drag strips. The car he runs at the strips is a highly modified 1957 Chevy--probably about 600 HP with NOS.
But, back to the race with his Mustang. We timed a red light just right and went on green--in a very, very safe location. I reacted a bit quicker and jumped out ahead about a car length. He started to pull on me at some point in second gear. He was a car length ahead at 100 MPH. He is heavier than I am and had about 1/4 tank of gas. My tank was full, and while not usual, my spare tire, etc., was in my trunk. Stock his car is 300 HP. However, he has a cold-air intake, after-market muffler, and free-flow cats. His ECU has been tuned, including for shifts. So, his car shifts incredibly fast. His rear end is a 3.55, while mine, of course, is a 3.38. I sure wish I had a 3.55. I would have been right there.
G-man, if you read this post, then would you confirm something for me? Can you confirm that almost all drag strip 1/4 times and ET's are or are not weather or altitude adjusted. If they are adjusted for altitude, then what altitude are they adjusted to.

While reading the e90 forum I noticed a thread where a 335i and an m3 were at the drag strip on 2 separate occasions.once with unfavorable density altitude. The m3 was running 14.0's and the 335i was running 13.6's.On the other occasion with favorable density altitude the m3 was running 13.0's and the 335i was running 13.3's.I mention this to show that FI cars are affected less by weather than NA cars.I don't remember were I saw the thread or I would direct you to it.

Hi Zman,To my knowledge most or all drag strips are not corrected for altitude. They let the racers do their own corrections. Some strips will provide the weather information, but most serious racers have their own weather stations. Some strips will provide the density altitude info.
