Are you saying the S6 won over a M5 SMG?
I was surprised too, but yes: Motor Trend had the S6 in first place, M5 (SMG) in second and the E63 in third. Car and Driver had the E63 first, the S6 in second (losing by just one point) and the M5 in third. Automobile put the E63 in first, the S6 in second and the M5 in third.

I?ve driven both the new S6 and S8 and was not impressed.
The M5 is soooooo much more fun to drive, and it?s considerably faster

Interior styling and quality...............that?s another thing! BMW has to get it?s act together IMO.

....and when it comes to i-drive / MMI comparison....no big difference IMO. Both systems have their advantages and drawbacks.

I actually think i-drive works very well. I have used it in 3 cars for a total of over 110.000 km! So I?m maybe a little biased.......

there is no car in this world that is better than your M5, right ? I mean porsche, lambo, ferrari... nah

is that how you get your BMW discounts

Cause i sure as hell think they need more people like you on their PR department.
Youre just as bad as my SA... last time he told me *laugh* that he thinks the m6 is a better car then a F430 .... LMAO

I am biased toward BMW, but the one car I am sorry I didn't consider before getting the 550 was the S6. I drove it (a friend's S6 - not a lame short test drive) after I ordered my 5. This is how I feel after having the 5 for a few months:

1) The quattro is nice..to me...only once you take the summer tires off the 5. To know you are at the limit you must first step over it. This you really cannot/don't want to do with the Audi.
2) The V-10 sounds great. The 550 is unecessarily quiet. Something that can be remedied with an exhaust, but it should sound like a 650...it has the same engine.
3) The S6, like all Audi's has a heavy front end and thus a tendency to understeer, made worse by the quattro. The BMW's handling is better...but you have to push both cars to see this.
4) The BMW looks better IMHO. The S6 is too understated.
5) This is the one the Audi guys are going to hate...the base model A6 is a very very boring car to drive, while the base model 530 is a spectacular drive. The point being that the BMW has the goods, the DNA is designed into chassis, the S6 is sweet frosting spread over a stale muffin. The V10 is nice, and the handling is better than you would think. But the 550 is the S6's true competitior, not the M5. A manual 550 posted a 5.0 to 60, whereas the S6 is a 5.1-5.2 0-60 car. Audi themselves have plans for an RS6 to really compete with the M5.
6) No Audi lease is going to touch BMW's money factor of .00150 and that's without all inclusive maintainence...
7) The Audi is a softer more understated rocketship. The BMW is a bolder more outgoing statement, and as such is more fun (and as fast).

I often wondered why they have never compared the two...

DRP, some good points here but your points at 3) and 5) were pretty comprehensively dismantled in each of the three tests - some of the old stereotypes need to be put to bed! The latest issue of Roundel (for those outside the US this is the BMW Car Club of America's excellent magazine) contains some additional evidence. Roundel tests the RS4 against the M3 and in the article two racing/test drivers plus two M3 owners (one an M3 racer) said that whilst they expected the quattro and its weight penalty to impact handling the reality was that it did not - the RS4 was a much better all round drive than the M3 - itself held out by many as the pinnacle of BMW handling. New M3 will surely be a tougher test, but even Roundel (hardly an unbiased publication) feels the RS4 will be tough to beat. Long story short is that many of the old misperceptions need to be retired - AWD can handle as well as RWD (the S6 and RS4 are 40/60 front/rear bias) and you don't notice the extra weight of the quattro when the car is well balanced. Fact is, whether we think the S6 competes with the M5 or not, three leading auto magazines believe it does and all three placed the S6 over the M5 in every test. No doubt that the 550 trounces the A6 4.2, but the S6 is a much better car than our 550. I'm very close to an order......
