Anyways, different cars are design for different purpose.
People who buy Porsche Turbo wouldn't be able to handle the power without an AWD system so I think is a marketing thing and concern about safety of their owners besides the handling issues. Think about it if the people at Porsche thinks that the Turbo 996 is best with AWD why did they come out with a RWD version a la GT2? (Which is one of my favourite 996 despite that it doesn't drive the front wheel)
Lambos have AWD hmm... could it be because it is made by the Audi group? I still like the Countach with a mid-engine rear drive setup, one of the best Lambos IMO.
WRC cars have to drive in different terrain ie. snow, mud, sand, tarmac so putting an AWD system in it would make sense don't you think?
So I want to ask why doesn't Ferrari have AWD, I don't see one in Enzo and I don't think we would see one soon.
If you say AWD is the best, why it is not on F1 cars which is the most technologically advance racer on this planet and it would be fair to say that Alonso and Solberg are both good driver but I don't hear Alonso complaining his car is missing AWD.
It all goes down to preference as some like AWD others like RWD.

i think it has really come to the fact that with the increasing power of cars, you really do need awd to be able to harness it. I mean come on F1 cars use slicks with technology which we wont be seeing for the next 10 years. They have virtually 100% anti-lock brakes, and during most of the terrain they come across , they can do ok with rwd. But in reality we dont always drive on mirror-finish roads, nor do we go to monaco to drive, and in this respects wiht the rain , mud and everything else AWD really does come into its own once the car has more than 300bhp
Oh and BTW, look at some ferrari adverts in mobile.de or autortrade.co.uk ... how often do you find "never been driven in rain" or something along those lines. Ferraris are 99% bought by posseurs, who
1) do not want to
2) cannot
exploit their full potention .. hence they drive them as weekend cars and never really provoke the car enough

Too many different surface directions and the two tone does not do it for me in these later pics. The one color scheme in Peters opening post looks far better, smoother looking IMHO.
