coming from Audi background this gets my attention

The R8 shares a version of the Lamborghini Gallardo's structural underpinnings and will come with a detuned version of the Gallardo's 5.0-litre V10, giving 450bhp, as well as the 420bhp V8 found in the RS4. This is to ensure that sales of the more expensive Gallardo will not be adversely affected. Audi hasn't announced pricing for the R8 as yet, but it will undercut the Gallardo by some margin. A starting point of around EUR 95,000 has been rumored.

some numbers measured on a similar concept car:
torque 750 Nm/1750 – 5800 ot./min,
0-60 3.7sec

so who knows what the power will finaly be but still.

but an Audi for 100 grand ??? well one may just as well go for the Lambo already.

is that why the Porsche turbo and the Lamborghinis are all AWD ?

Is that also why all WRC cars are AWD? i wonder why Solberg et al. dont complain, even though they are 100times better drivers than you

give up.. youre comments are a joke

as i stated a while back, this is gonna be a serious contender when i trade my 6er, i really like the look of this thing ...from what i've read, the V10 in the US is supposed to be priced in line with the 997, so that would mean a mid $80Ks car base, and the stats i read was the engine producing ~500hp in the V10 version ....i dont think it will get too high in price as it is competing with the 911 so that will give you the limits as to what audi could price this at...i happen to think it has to be better priced to attract more potentials so it right in my car budget

I'm liking this car too.
Since nothing has been officially announced by Audi yet, here's what's been rumored (Motor Trend 2/06):
  • Basic aluminum space frame the same as Gallardo but no actual common parts shared.
  • More of a daily driver than the Gallardo.
  • Aimed to compete directly with the 997 on price.
  • 200 more HP than the 997.
  • V8 and V10 engines offered with quattro drive.
  • DSG transmission (perhaps with both engines?).
  • Built at Audi's Neckarsulm plant specializing in aluminum.

A few observations of the test mule:

Headlights seem to be of the Xenon projector type and not the LED type seen in the prototype pic.

The rear spoiler is active (raises/lowers).

Door handles are flush with the body and in the same location as the Gallardo.

Gallardo's 19" wheels fit nicely in the wheel well. 20-inchers would look huge.

The entire front end of the car is a giant grill.

Chicken Pox color scheme could be the next big Audi offering since the quattro all-wheel-drive.
